Give it to me Raw

Girls! Raw food diet and low estrogen levels? Or any difference in Girly things? Also join my group RAW WOMEN

Has anyone experienced low estrogen levels while being a raw vegan. Also, if anyone has any good and specific sources about the link between hormones and diet I would be greatly appreciative. I've read all the big books so I'm really looking for specifics (and yes I have a doctor, this is just more research). Also looking for info that is NOT menopause related.

This is turning out to be a fascinating topic and I am learning so much. I had no idea about any of these effects of a raw vegan diet on us women! Sounds like things just keep getting better! I will post a roundup of information this weekend on my blog (www.buellerskitchen.com) in my "girls corner" . This is where I discuss everything girly about everything I have found as I continue my mad research. I'll also include what people have shared here as well as links, books, references, etc. so we can all keep learning as there doesn't seem to be much out there on this topic. I think it'd be nice to have a bunch of resources in one place, don't you?

I've created a group called Raw Women. I hope all you ladies will join!

Thank you everyone! This is awesome!

Hi Wendi:

My doctor recommended I take Chaste Tree Berry (Vitex) and it's been amazing. I too became really regular but still had some problems but that seems to sort it out. It took away all my PMS symptoms.

be well

That's great to hear, Bueller!!!! I'm going to be picking it up in the next few days. I hope to have good results with it, as well. Part of me wonders about something, though. If the Vitex works, will that keep my body from eventually learning how to work properly on its own? What do you think?

Lots of love to you,

Wendi

Vitex works on the pituitary, not directly on hormones. So, over time, it helps your body to function better and you wouldn't have to use it forever.

Ashwagandha keeps you horny...yayy
Try diluted raw tonic than pills for horniness, if you want to increase that. in India its a long term Ayurveda practice.
I know some people had reguleration with that tonic as well as increased sexual pleasure,...

LOL Well, if it works that way for me, maybe I'll announce it here. :-P However, I'm not using it for that purpose, so I'll be taking the pills.

I'm very slowly transitioning to lower fat, just to see what it does for my body. As with raw foods, I'll be sure to share what my experiences are.

I've heard good and bad about 80/10/10, so I'm working my way to trying it out to see for myself. It has to be gradual for me, however. I don't want to upset my 100% rawness by going to an extreme that I'm not ready to handle, yet. :-P

XOXOXO

Wow, lot's of good info. When I was 15 i became vegetarian and shortly thereafter my period stopped...for 6 years. I went to doctors and they said that it was not from any lack of fat on my body, and they said it wasn't for diet...most those years I was vegan but not raw. I was worried because I wanted to make sure that I was still fertile, so I asked the universe for my period back, and it came back after 6 years. Since then it has been pretty irregular, except in the past year it became more stable. Then I began the 811 diet and I didn't get it for 2 months, became worried, began eating cooked, heavier foods, and it came back. It is interesting to read these articles, and think that maybe this whole time my body may have just been tuning in to my natural state. Hmmmm I kind of instinctively felt that when I was younger, but didn't have any solid research to back it up, just some hearsay.

That's really interesting Les. Thank you! I was just researching DHA. I'm going to check that out.

There is vegan DHA from micro algae- it's called Neuromins. It's already converted. There's a lot of misinformation about omega 3's being converted. Some people can't efficiently convert ALA (the master omega 3) to EPA/DHA, but most of us can.

When we get ALA from plant sources, the body can customize how it converts. It doesn't convert all the ALA because it will actually use that form of the fatty acid. With fish products, it can't customize the conversion.
Working in the supplements industry for over a decade, I've learned a few things about fish oil. A lot of what you hear is marketing hype. Not that fish oil doesn't have lots of benefits- it does- but it has some drawbacks, too.
ALL fish oil has to be filtered and purified to remove contaminants, and this usually means the RBD method- Refined, Bleached, Deodorized a.k.a. "pharmaceutical grade". They distill the oil to purify it, which heats and damages it and begins to rancidify it. Rancid oils create free radicals in our bodies.
Did you know that there are only a couple of products on the market with no rancidity? They are New Chapter Supercritical DHA and Enzymatic Therapy Eskimo 3. These are purified with liquid Co2, which is much better than distillation. These are the brands to buy.

Also, even the most purified fish oil still has so many parts per trillion of contaminants. One part per trillion is one million parts. It only takes a few parts to begin to effect cellular expression. We already have enough junk in our bodies that we can't avoid. Why add more?

One last thing. The sustainability of fish is in serious trouble, so why add to it when you can get your DHA from plants like flax, hemp and microalgae (again -this form IS preconverted:)
I've heard that coconut oil helps us convert omega 3's from flax.

You said coconut oil helps us convert Omega 3 from flax----Gabriel cousens says everyone should have 3 T. ground flax together with 1T. coconut oil every day. He said basically (my words) there is some synergy about it. Anyway, I never heard directly that it helps convert the flax , so now I'm glad to hear that's the reason. Where did you hear that?
I try to have it every day, but I also use fish oil for good measure, but now someone said its heated!!! What's up with that???
