Has anyone experienced low estrogen levels while being a raw vegan. Also, if anyone has any good and specific sources about the link between hormones and diet I would be greatly appreciative. I've read all the big books so I'm really looking for specifics (and yes I have a doctor, this is just more research). Also looking for info that is NOT menopause related.
This is turning out to be a fascinating topic and I am learning so much. I had no idea about any of these effects of a raw vegan diet on us women! Sounds like things just keep getting better! I will post a roundup of information this weekend on my blog (www.buellerskitchen.com) in my "girls corner" . This is where I discuss everything girly about everything I have found as I continue my mad research. I'll also include what people have shared here as well as links, books, references, etc. so we can all keep learning as there doesn't seem to be much out there on this topic. I think it'd be nice to have a bunch of resources in one place, don't you?
I've created a group called Raw Women. I hope all you ladies will join!
Great info, ladies! And perfect timing as I am now in my second month of being 100% raw and have been wondering where my period went! I'm about 10 days late and know I'm not pregnant so this definitely makes so much sense. Wooohooo, I don't mind this side effect at all! One more little tidbit to share with my sis, who gets the worst cramps and periods! Maybe this will give her more incentive to opt for a raw food lifestyle ;-)
Keep the posts coming...I love sharing with such wonderful women in this community!
Hi,
I think the reduction in oestrogen occurs because the leafy greens for example contain powerful substances such as INdol-3 which reduce oestrogen......and of course there are several difernt types of oestrogen and we want a reduction of the carsinogenic forms and to keep thelevels of the other. Do you know the breakdown of your levels?
Sam
hey ladies.
Question about the thermometer- what kind do you buy/ where to buy it? and what time of the day would you take it? does it have to be exactly to the minute the same time of day everyday?
It's a basal thermometer and you have to take it the minute you wake up. You can't even get out of bed to pee. You should keep it next to your bed. Don't drink water or anything either. Here is some more information: http://www.ovulation-calculator.com/basal-body-temperature.htm
OK, assuming all of this is true, does it follow that you could have heavy periods while detoxing?
I've been gradually increasing my raw intake for about ... 4 months. I'm probably 65% now. I was on the minipill (progesterone only) but my periods were way screwy (had a baby, nursed him, etc.)
I went off the pill last month and dropped 10 pounds immediately. Then, this month, I ovulated on day 14 and started bleeding on day 28, which is textbook. (Yay!)
However, it was pretty heavy and lasted a full 6 days. Cramps were there, but not gut-wrenching.
I'm wondering if, as I increase my raw (goal is about 80%), things will get better as I flush everything out?
Hey Stephanie!
the point that i had been raw for about a year i started doing a series of liver/gallbladder flushes under my doctor's care, David Jubb in manhattan......it was crazy years ago before I changed my lifestyle my period was always medium flow but for 6 days no cramps or anything only occassionally
so when i starting really cleansing on these flushes the next month it was crazy how much i bled!
there was about an hour or 2 where it was really bad, with cramps as well...you can imagine
then the following next two months it was real light for a couple days
then it stopped a few months later had it again very light and havent had it since
so think the cleansing may have something to do with your experience
I haven't had a period in 2 1/2 years. I've been raw for 1 1/2 years and and of course my mom was worried about me, although I knew I was fine. In fact, I feel the healthiest and strongest I've ever been in my whole life. She kind of pushed my to see a doctor ( lol) so I went to appease her. They told me how bad it was to be vegan, and I didn't even bother to tell them about raw food because I figured they probably would definately think I was going to collapse right there in front of them. They took a blood test to check my thyroid, and of course everything came back fine, so they were really pushing for me to go on the pill just so I would have a period! How insane is that? So, I never went back or gave it a second thought ever again. I think it's better to trust your gut feelings when it comes to matters such as these. Of course it's great to have feedback, but sometimes other people's influence can taint your own inner wisdom, and just add to the confusion. Anyway, everything I said may not be true. Who knows?. Have a great day!!!!
Some doctors want to put you on the pill so you have a period... some want to put you on it so you don't! I wish they'd make up their minds (not that I'd listen either way...).
I'm not sure what to think right now... I've been reading some of the things some of you women write about not bleeding, and how it feels natural to you. For me it has always felt natural to bleed, it has always felt like a natural cleanse. I think I've missed one or two periods in my whole life, and I've always felt uncomfortable then, like something was wrong.
But as an athlete I've been warned that missin periods is a sign that something is wrong in your body, that you are under weight. It supposedly happens to a lot of gymnasts, and female marathon runners.
I did have some pretty heavy bleeding periods in my youth. For years I had to take a pain killer on the first day. But after going vegetarian the pain stopped. After going vegan my flow has been lessened. It's always three days max. But I have yet to notice a change after going raw (95%)
Kimberly Dawn Thomas Going on a road trip to Augora Hills, California with my daughter. We are eating "raw" all the way. Looking for a "raw restaurant".
do you think people are setting up these studies because they like to 'debunk' the raw food diet? i honestly think cooked food is just shit and raw food is so much better. i am attracted to raw food so i don't really give a rats ass if somebody sa...
raw pecan pie or i was just looking at raw pumpkin recipes ... never tried it tho ... pecan pie would be unnoticeable as raw ;) ..... you know raw matt outta vegas?
