Give it to me Raw

~~Melissa

What did you eat and drink today and which superfoods did you use?

I'm newly raw and already feeling great with a lot of juices and smoothies and salads. My next step is to get a better understanding of supplements and superfoods. I'm reading a lot of contradictory information (which I don't actually mind because it tells me that there's no one way for everyone and I know I will indeed find what's best for me), but I know I don't know what I need to know yet, if you follow.

I would love to hear what you ate/consumed today or any recent day, any superfoods and supplements involved, what quantities you use, and, if you care to say, why you chose them. What superfoods are essential for you?

Hi Melissa,
I think it's wonderful your embracing juices, smoothies, and salads!
When I first started incorporating more raw into my diet about a year ago I felt very overwhelmed
by all the different views on what to eat, in what combination, and when. Now since beeing 100%
for just a short six months Ive sort of embraced all the information out there, while keeping in mind that
I must listen to my own body, and everyone is different and unique!
Soooo, with that said, this is what I ate so far today:

4-5 glasses of water
banana
raw granola (made last night...warm off dehydrator (LOVE IT....it's from Sarma's book)
Juice of 7 small oranges and pulp, 1/4c. purified water, 1 Tablespoon blue-green algae, 1 Tablespoon Agave nectar
(The reason I drank this is because Im taking the train into the city.....and everyone seems to be sick...thankfully I haven't been this season! Pure prevention)

So far, thats about it....but I'll most likely have lettuce wraps later, stuffed with mango and various sprouts and a thin layer of almond butter concoction....

Hope this is useful! I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Melissa,

I don't consume enough superfoods, but I'm just getting into it slowly, I guess. I use raw hemp powder (a tablespoon or so is nice in a green smoothie) and bee pollen (also in a smoothie... it adds a flowery flavour). I eat quite a bit of raw cacao... I like to have it in pudding. And I love hemp seeds. I eat them on top of my salads. They're delicious!

I'm looking into a blue-green algae or spirulina, but I'm not really sure what to look for. I'm kind of afraid of the taste, too...

I actually really enjoy the taste of spirulina and have been adding a couple tablespoons, along with some agave nectar, to grapefruit juice. It smells much stronger than it tastes when mixed but does have an earthy deep flavour. it looks like cement in my clear bottle though! :P

update: today i added a bit more to what was my fav spirulina drink...WOW

juice of ~5 pears and ~4 apples
juice of 3 grapefruits
blended with a good handful of frozen strawberries
and a tablespoon of spirulina

Hi Melissa!

Here is a rundown of what I ate today, if it helps give you an idea of what to eat yourself. I personally don't use "superfoods" and think that all edible and tasty raw fruits an vegetables count as a super food!

Breakfast- half of a pineapple and some blended papaya smoothie
Snack- other half of my pineapple
Lunch- Thai papaya salad (papaya, red cabbage, tomato)
Dinner- Tree tomato soup- (tree tomatoes, red pepper, avocado, celery and lime juice blended) Also had some more pineapple and some blended papaya smoothie for dessert.

I guess I'm on a pineapple kick today! Anyhow, its just to say, eat what you like that tastes good, is raw, mostly fruit, and you don't need "superfoods" if you don't want them.

Smiles,
Beth

Pineapples are in season
The body knows!
I have been craving them and I have never had one -- never
few times in smoothies but that is it

You've never ever had a pineapple???? Where do you live, Mars? I would highly recommend you check one out, they are fantastic when they're fresh and ripe!

Smiles,
Beth

i wouldn't call any of that stuff food if you care to know, i like pinapple but when i get to the second one my mouth bleeds from the acid, proceed with caution, plus i heard that imported ones are even more acid theyre never truly ripe, you arent missing too much in that reguard

Thank you for your positive words everyone. I've been raw for 8 months and it was simply dissappointing to have gone through such a binge! Besides I felt physically awful! Onward we march from here! lol
