Give it to me Raw

While growing up I was always told that women needed to shave because it was more 'feminine' or that it was unclean to have hairy armpits or legs. While growing up I heard that it was French women that participated in growing out their hair. I asked a French friend about this and she said she has no idea where that idea came from and from her knowledge was not true. When I was in Sydney, I noticed that some women did not shave their armpits.

Okay at first, I thought it looked 'funny' because society has programed me to think that way, but not too long after I began to question whether or not it was bad. I have searched on the internet for other people's thoughts about women growing out their hair. In some cases both men and women thought it was disgusting that women didn't shave, others believed that the women should do whatever makes them happy.

I am just curious what people on here think. I am a firm believer that people should do whatever floats their boat in any and all aspects of life.

To the Raw Women:
Have you noticed a change in your shaving routine?
Is the hair growth faster/slower?
Do you think this has anything to do with a particular food that you are eating or product you are using?

To the Raw Men:
What is your opinion about women with hairy armpits or legs?
Would you date a women with hairiness? Or would you draw the line somewhere?

Thanks.

It depends on you and your skin. I've seen it work for some people and not for others. Dharti's right though. The more constantly you do it the easier your hair comes out and the more your skin is used to the feeling - desensitized in a way. It's always a horrible thing when an emergency comes up or I'm out of wax and I have to shave instead. I haven't made that mistake for a while.

Me neither.
I used to, for a few years. Now I get something a little less...naked...than a Brazilian, but that is just my preference. I don't think it hurts that badly (nor have I ever had my skin ripped off...sorry you had such a bad experience, RawZi!), but I will admit I have a high threshold for pain. Go to a professional, reputable spa (and I advise reading reviews online first), and experiment with different ones to find one that works well for you. I've been to a dozen or more in my time, and while I have been to plenty of good spas, I have finally found a GREAT one. Don't be terrified! :-)

When I was about 19-20 I was in a period where I wanted to make a statement and kind of rebell against the "commercial-brainwash" we are exposed to. It kind of surprises me when people say that "hair on women doesn't look natural".. how can something natural, not be natural? it should be the other way around.
Even after more than a year not shaving my armpits, I still thought it looked weird in the mirror. I got a couple of comments from guys on it, (also on not wearing a bra, which I don't need 'cause I don't have anything that needs to be carried ;-), but mostly it's been positive. The type of guy I usually fall for, is not the types that find bodyhair discusting anyway.
My last boyfriend liked it (surprised me a lot at first!), and said whatever I felt comfortable with was ok with him.
When I shaved off my dreadlocks, I started shaving again, 'cause I just felt too un-feminine. Now it's a little on and off. I don't shave my armpits everyday, maybe more like once every week or every second week, or once a month, but now when it's summer I might do it more.. But I feel more ok with not shaving now than 3 years ago.
I've gone summers without shaving my legs too, but I've always felt weird about it. If I lived in a all-year sunny country, they would be bleached, but not in Norway..

I must add that seeing women who hasn't shaved makes me very happy. It gives me a feeling of freedom :-)

I agree. I think it is liberating, but I can't go out in public with armpit hair. I just feel so conscious about it which bothers me, so when I wear sleeveless - I shave. Glad I am not alone in this. (=

BREATHARIAN????? what is the premise of that?

i don't shave in winter months, and only if it shows in summer weather. i prefer a shaved look, but only because i'm socialised this way. i thought i didn't shave cos i was a lazy slob, but maybe i have deeper reasons!

my muslim friend told me she is not allowed to have any hair on her body, anywhere! she uses a depilitory cream to remove her pubic hair. i think that this is gross!

I am from Brasil but living in California...

In Brasil, EVERY girl wax or shave under her arms and her legs. It is what the society "expect". It is very rare to see a girl not following this "rules".

In California is different, specially northern California ( Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Berkeley, Mendocino, Humboldt county, etc). You see girls without shaving/waxing a lot. Maybe because the beaches are too cold?!? Maybe the girls here have more "freedom" or different thinking here?!? I dunno!

> What is your opinion about women with hairy armpits or legs?

Nothing against it. I enjoy see its Freedom doing that! But...

> Would you date a women with hairiness? Or would you draw the line somewhere?

I do think it is much more attractive to me to have under arms and legs shaved and/or waxed. I personally, would not date (I guess...it is so complicate to say it) a girl that don't shave/wax. Please, I don't want to offend anybody ;)

When I was in my teens, I dated a Muslim man who was surprised and upset to find any hair on my body that was not on my head. He couldnt stand it and would actually get upset at me about it. Thankfully, that relationship ended pretty quick.

I think grooming can be a sign of loving and taking care of your self, or it can be an annoying chore done solely for societal reasons. Make up as well. It all depends on you. When I was younger, I wouldnt leave the house without make up, now I love being "fresh-faced," and yet I also love wearing make up occasionally when _I_ feel like it. Not for others, but for my own fun and happiness.

Anyway, I love my body the way it is, and love it more and more as I get healthier and healthier, with the living foods!

Okay back to the hair quesion -- Maybe cuz Im asian, but I dont get any hair on my arms or legs so I never have to shave them. I barely get any under my armpits, and 10 seconds with a razor once a week is all that's needed.

Now for my "special" region, I usually let it alone as Im not very hairy anyway. When I want to look / feel sexier, I just shave it all off, since I can never figure out how it's "supposed" to be trimmed and it's just easier and faster. I had it totally waxed once, and IT HURT LIKE HELL! I dont recommend it!

When it comes to men, I like their natural hair, though it is nice if it's trimmed a bit. With women, I find it fascinating and somewhat sexy when they let their hair alone. All in all, I like when people are loving their bodies, however that's expressed in their grooming habits..

Women are not meant to be anything but what they choose to be. If we were ment to be smooth then we would not have to shave :)

I am lazy, so I usually go for a month or two without shaving my legs, BUT I have blonde, fine hair, so it doesn't get too bad. I just started getting my lower legs waxed though, which is convenient. I shave under my arms everyday (honestly, I don't even like that guys have underarm hair...don't ask me why, LOL). Overall, I just prefer the look and feel of shaved/waxed skin, and while that may very well be due to society's influence on me, I don't care. However, I have many friends who choose to let their hair grow, and while it always kind of catches me by surprise, I don't mind it and I support their decision. :-)

That sounds like fun.. There is a thing called double dutch where two girls hold two ropes and you have to jump them both at the same time.. maybe you could find a couple of girls to try this with you. It's pretty impressive when you see it..
