Give it to me Raw

While growing up I was always told that women needed to shave because it was more 'feminine' or that it was unclean to have hairy armpits or legs. While growing up I heard that it was French women that participated in growing out their hair. I asked a French friend about this and she said she has no idea where that idea came from and from her knowledge was not true. When I was in Sydney, I noticed that some women did not shave their armpits.

Okay at first, I thought it looked 'funny' because society has programed me to think that way, but not too long after I began to question whether or not it was bad. I have searched on the internet for other people's thoughts about women growing out their hair. In some cases both men and women thought it was disgusting that women didn't shave, others believed that the women should do whatever makes them happy.

I am just curious what people on here think. I am a firm believer that people should do whatever floats their boat in any and all aspects of life.

To the Raw Women:
Have you noticed a change in your shaving routine?
Is the hair growth faster/slower?
Do you think this has anything to do with a particular food that you are eating or product you are using?

To the Raw Men:
What is your opinion about women with hairy armpits or legs?
Would you date a women with hairiness? Or would you draw the line somewhere?

Thanks.

I never shave. Razor's are the devils objects. Barbaric.

I wax when going out or when I have someone to impress on a special occasion. But other than that I don't bother with it. Since I've been waxing the hair seems to grow out thinner. Hair grows in 3 stages, so I usually only have one or two stages at a time showing, So it's sparse as well.
I remember 2 years ago I met a dead head and noticed she didn't shave. At the time I thought it looked weird. Like you said, it's society that makes us think this way. Now I have no problem whatsoever. When I see it it just looks normal to me.

So If I get a boyfriend that doesn't like it, that's his problem. My last boyfriend got used to it, and knew that if it got too long for him he could ask me to get rid of it and I would wax.

how are razors more barbaric than waxing? i'd rather use a safety razor on my hair than rip it out at the roots.

Once you've got your hair and skin used to being epilated, they get used to being exfoliated, also. Less bumps and less ingrown hairs. After waxing over and over, it comes out with no problem; follicles seem to give up the hair shafts easier. Your dermal nerves get used to it, also.
Halfway through esthetician school I was able to wax my own legs in 30 minutes without flinching.

Now when I have a real emergency and no sugar 'wax' or no time to wax, and I shave, it's a disaster for my legs/underarms/wherever else I need to shave. Razor bumps and ingrown hairs everywhere.. and it ITCHES! It's hell.

I guess our bodies all have different preferences, huh.

Word. Waxing is awesome.

Lymph nodes are well below the dermal layer. We also have lymph nodes in our necks, so it would be no different for men when shaving. Lymph nodes are all over the place and between a quarter inch below the surface (neck, armpits and a couple in the arms to well below the surface. Him stating that shaving your armpits would cut your lymph node would be like saying that shaving your chest would cut your rib cage.

Note: I'm not advocating shaving or not, just correcting his completely ridiculous statement.

Shaving armpits or genitals? No plans at this moment, but I have in the past and see nothing wrong with shaving anywhere. I view it as purely cosmetic. I've shaved just about everything except my arms and legs and occasionally have bumps, even on my face.

As someone who had an infected lymph node in my neck (before I was old enough to shave, so it was unrelated), I know a little bit about them.

BTW, forgot to close my parenthesis above, it should read: "Lymph nodes are all over the place and between a quarter inch below the surface (neck, armpits and a couple in the arms) to well below the surface." The lack of the closing of the parenthesis might make it seem confusing

This is kind of related to what you said. The aluminum in anti-perspirant is toxic and applying to an area close to lymph nodes is probably not good. I don't see how shaving would be harmful, unnecessary but not harmful.

Shaving has just been something that is programed into our heads by society. There is nothing wrong or unclean about not shaving...men don't shave so shy should women? This needs to change.

I shave, because I like the way it feels. I've tried to go out my leg hair countless times, and it comes in thick and dark, and the sensation of it against my pants drives me completely nuts. I always eventually gave in and shaved, no matter how much I want to "make a statement". I finally decided I'd just make the statement that I do what's comfortable for me, and that's shaving. :)

(Actually now I use the No!No! from Sephora, and that works great, too, much better than blades).

Haha. My leg hairs tend to get split ends. So yes, it's completely possible that your's did also. ;)
I like your last comment. It took me a while to accept the fact that I am everchanging. But it's the thing I embrace the most about myself, now.

i shave my armpits regularly because i use crystal deodorant and it works better with no hair. i shave my legs, but not in the winter because i need all the warmth i can get.

It seems that any sort of deodorant/antiperspirant works better with having no hair. That's the main reason I wax my underarms when they get too long. They start sweating and smelling more. And that's just not kind to others. People don't have to look at my underarms if they don't want to, but that's just mean to expect them to hold their nose for me. haha.

I almost always shave bc I just like the way it feels, though I think opting not to is awesome too. Here's a link to a picture of Unmata http://unmata.tribe.net/photos/b063e710-31b2-47bb-b706-d384ccbaf64f , they are one of favorite belly dance troupes ever and most of the girls don't shave their pits or their legs and they look super hot!

I distinctly remember feeling the exact way. I had the Nesco dehydrator before, and it stunk (it didn't work well). LOL The Nesco dehydrator is made in a circular shape and it would take doubly long to dehydrate, and food was often very moist/chew...
