GI2MR Weekly Theme 1: October 27th to Sunday November 2, 2008
What advice or knowledge do you wish you were given when you first started your raw food journey?
I know there are lot of beginners on GI2MR, so this question may not totally apply. But for the folks who have been at this for at least 8 months to 1 year, what would you say?
Is there something that you now know deeply which would have saved you a lot of time, effort, energy or hassle when you first started?
I would say it's probably one of the biggest things. I read a lot about raw before going raw and I knew to eat my veggies and fruits but I didn't realize how much extra protein and fat i was in-taking. I thought I needed all this extra stuff.
It definitely slowed me down partly because a lot of the nuts and beans I was eating weren't actually raw. I wasn't getting results because I was eating very hard to digest foods...like "raw" nuts and beans but also a lot of carrots and kale. I really needed to focus on healing my digestion which I was not doing. After that I did buy a dehydrator, but it was the high fat foods from it that made me react poorly. I never relied on the D much (a couple times a week), but it was nice when I would really crave cooked food. In the end I discovered that eating light foods is the secret. Being raw? ...piece of cake!...it's being a healthy raw that is difficult since I have a penchant for really rich and heavy foods. Now I have an idea what works for me so i make an effort to stick to that. I would consider that past year a transition faze because I was still doing a lot of raw.
Thanks so much for this. Very helpful. I have been trying to eat healthier and "transitioning" but have found myself gravitating toward nutty and high fat foods and sugary foods (LOTS of sweet fruit and "raw" substitutes) and haven't found positive changes from it (obviously). I need to get back to the the right direction, re-center, and focus on veggies.
I saw the friday night lectures, since they were online for free.
I was wondering if you were any of the winners YB! So, you won the clarity..Yeehaw.
