I know this is random to be asking in a diet-related community, but I guess it goes along with lifestyle.
In my English class we read an excerpt from Maria Montessori's The Montessori Method and it sounds intriguing! Not that I have children or plan on having them any time soon...
Just out of curiosity, does anybody out there have their children in a Montessori school? Or if you yourself went? And if you have any negative/positive experiences?
Hi! Your question is not random at all; it's a great q. I actually think it's important for us as a community to speak on non-diet related issues, because a lot of us have similar viewpoints on these other topics.
So, that being said.
I have twins that are 4 years old, and they are in a Montessori school. I don't know too many details about how the Montessori method works, but they do encourage autonomy in the children.
I also definitely appreciate the method of allowing the children to choose their own work, rather than always being dictated to - in a regular school it's common for a teacher to ALL DAY be guiding what the children are doing. I think it is necessary and important to allow children (and people) to decide what is interesting to them at that time, and therefore engage in that activity...that way they stay excited about what they are learning. When they are done being excited about it, they are free to move onto the next GREAT thing!

I attended a K-12 montessori school for the last two years (11th and 12th grades).
the children are all very intelligent and excel rapidly.
for example in eleventh grade my class of six people scored higher than every other school in utah and the west combined. I'm not bragging, but it says something about brain development. A lot of people switch from UCAST (a "special" school for "gifted" and "prodigious" losers who are only there because their brains have mutated to be able to speak like R2-D2. It's really just for losers whose parents want to be known for spawning an einstein) to my school because of how sweet it is.
You could check it out, Walden School Of Liberal Arts (Provo, UT)

i went to a fabulous montessori school in indianapolis for preschool. i wish my parents had kept me in it. when i went to catholic school afterward, i was much further ahead in every subject (yes, even in kindergarten) than the other students. i think montessori schools are excellent because they really work with each child's own learning pace. i highly recommend it and plan on sending my children to one.
