Give it to me Raw

Hi All:

I have a question. When you eat cooked food, do you have any physical, emotional, or mental reaction to it? For instance, yesterday I had 2 cooked waffles for breakfast, a raw lunch, and a cooked dinner of a veggie burger and fries. To say I felt like ^&%! would be an understatement. All things being equal in my life, the only thing difference was that I ate cooked & processed food. I was depressed, sad, and had a hard time lifting myself up out of those feelings.

I wrote about this on my blog and my mother responded to me via email this morning. She said she'd had ice cream and cake for my dad's birthday on Saturday, which she then followed with more cooked food. She said than on Sunday she could barely get out of bed, and on Monday she felt like she'd been hit by a bus. Again, all things being equal in her life as well.

Does anyone else have such a quick and profound response to cooked food? Is it just me and my mom? I hope not. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Althea

I'm still getting to grips with this new way of eating, but am definitely starting to notice a difference after eating processed foods. I've been noticing the lightness I feel during the day when I am eating raw, but am still eating a cooked meal in the evening....and to be frank I've not always made the healthiest of choices for this. Afterwards I have been feeling sluggish, kind of fuzzy headed, tired and heavier. Noticing this, and noticing how easy it is for me to make the bad choices is really motivating me to keep on this raw path. Don't know if i can say no to bloody marys yet though :-D

Thank you everyone for responding! I apologize it took me so long to post. I am on dial-up (so 20th Century...I know :-) and it can be a bear getting on this site. And my kids climb on me when I'm at the computer. I learned a lot from this post. I am so glad it's not just me. Like Moira said, when I feel crappy after eating cooked, it keeps me motivated as well. Thank you so much!

My problem with cooked food is that it doesn't satisfy me!! to the point of being annoyed or angry. It tastes so good and I don't want to stop eating it, but then I eat so much that my stomach hurts and I become very tired.

1 cantaloupe will completely satisfy me where as even the largest bowl of steamed veggies and avocado will always leave me wanting more. I remember staying at the mandarin and eating non stop for 3 1/2 hours and could barely walk after. Or eating a burger and fries with garlic bread and a chocolate brownie for desert, and then going to the store to buy an apple pie and eating the whole thing lol. the pie alone was 1300 calories. Must be a mental thing, cause there is no way any human can even process that amount of food, I don't know how I live through these events ; )

How I feel depends on what it is I've eaten.

If it's pizza, I've got stomach cramps galore and it will be a fun time in the old john for a while.

If it's steamed veggies...frankly I don't notice much of a difference. I made a pasta with steamed veggies and a pretty wholesome (except cooked) pasta sauce last night and I feel fine today, but my current goal is "raw until dinner, then dinner as sensible as possible" so that was within my usual parameters.

Dave:

What you said about gluten is timely. I just had my sons tested for allergies to gluten, corn, and soy. I will get the results on Jan 6. My mother and I have been talking about and suspect that we both have gluten intolerance. I will let you all know. Thank you all for responding to my post.

gluten intolerance is so very common it's scary. a lot of people can't digest wheat at all, others can but get bloated, and some people have no problems with it. Most people are fine with buckwheat it seems, and there are plenty of pastas you can find made from gluten free grains like quinoa and brown rice that taste just as good if not better than wheat!

I've been tested for wheat allergy and gluten intolerance and chrons and all that, all negative. But if there is one thing my body does not like it's grains, and especially not wheat. I was depressed for many years because I ate it without even suspecting that the food I put in my mouth was the cause. I though it was normal. After I got wheat and gluten out of my diet it was like I became another person.

So even if you guys test negative, it may still be a good idea to be aware. When you eat wheat - notice changes in mood (my didn't come til the next day) :)

I've met some hit chix on GITMR. Not satisfying in the least. Just the opposite. Most communication is self-defeating, accomplishes nothing. I would love it if people would leave me alone when I'm out and about. Anybody else?

Mariam, watching this raises questions: for instance, is this guy just an actor? Seems like it. "Am I glad I went"? Well, in the sense that I knew I had to see him eventually.....I guess I got it over with (and used up my airline credit). Is he a...

Thank you Wrenn that is what I thought too and your comments are very helpful! I think it would also be cool at $.99 for 5 TOTALLY new raw recipes and then it can be a series of them at $.99 each...thanks for your comment!
