Give it to me Raw

Here are some things I've been wondering

1. Does anyone drink hot tea or is that considered "cooked"?

2. Is commerically sold black pepper raw?

3. How about store-bought "all natural" beef jerky?

4. What's a good ammount of raw nuts to be eating a day?

5. What did YOU eat today? (looking for inspiration & to see how different people put together their raw diet on a daily basis)

6. How do you eat beans? (soak dried ones?)

7. Is it ok to drink odwalla's superfood or naked's the green machine?

I'd love to hear any insight you might have on these topics, thanks!

1. I drink hot tea.

3. No, it wouldn't be raw, most likely.

4. The amount of nuts you need depends on your level of fat to muscle ratio (whether you need to lose gain or maintain weight), your personal body type, and your desired level of rawness, since most nuts are not truly raw. When I eat, I eat about 1/2-1 c of nuts total per day, including nuts as ingredients in other stuff.

5. I'm juice feasting, so I had a kickin tropical punch, a surprisingly nice celery-apple-beet-gingerade, and a kale-pineapple juice that was barely tolerable, lol.

6. Be careful with the beans. Except for a few, they're toxic when sprouted or consumed raw. People seem to be okay with chickpeas, and mung beans aredefinitely safe.

7. It's okay if it's okay with you - this isn'ta diet with rules, this is a way of life with flexibility. You can do what you want and in what degree you want.

1. You can make teas that are still really effective and you dont have to make it super hot. Let the herbs soak for even a day to get the real effects, and buy only ORGANIC TEA. Tea is dried WITHOUT washing after being picked, so any pesticides sprayed on it will still be on there and in your drink afterwards. I think the temp level for water shouldnt be above 145 F.

2. Raw or not...black pepper will irritate the stomach. I have no idea about the details..but I dont even think about black pepper anymore. There are so many better options for spices.

3. Beef jerky...dried flesh from a tortured, stressed, and poisoned animal. If you are into meat still, try and find wild meat that has been dried. Check online and buy in bulk to save money.

4. 1/2 a cup-1 cup a day. The less you eat, the better. They will slow you down usually. Try to gravitate towards hempseed and brazil nuts. Again, buy in bulk. I support manitoba harvest hempseed because they really push for organic growing.

5. Breakfast - Papaya/Coconut meat salad Lunch - Coconut/Spinach Green Smoothie Dinner - Salad with wild greens and flowers. Picked myself. Look around and learn about edible weeds. Sounds crazy, but that is where the real nutrition is. Usually a nice salad for dinner, but keep it light. The lighter you are in the the evening, the more energy you will have in the morning. Sounds counter-intuitive, but try it.

6. I used to sprout mung beans and adzuki beans...now I dont deal with them at all. Soaking and sprouting is the only way to go though...but beans are usually pretty irritating to the digestive system. Get your protein from greens and seeds.

7. Those juices are fine if you want to drink cooked fruit puree. Its better than many other things, but its still alot of COOKED sugar. Youre better off eating a piece of fruit and drinking some water. And some companies are owned by big bad corporations that you might not want to support. (Coke owns Odwalla)

Aim for unbottled fruits and veggies, and lots of water. Fat should be a very small portion of your diet. Aim towards avocados and hempseed or coconuts for your fat intake.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, is there a brand of tea you reccomend?

1. I drink tea......herbal infusions, actually.....but tea nonetheless!

2. I doubt it, but I still use it.

3. Highly unlikely, but I don't eat it, so have never done any research or inquired about it!

4. I agree with outofthebox (as most of my responses do!)....it completely depends on what your goals are. For me personally, I eat 1 cup or less of nuts per day....trying to eat less! When I first went raw, I overdid it....we're talking like close to 2 cups a day, plus other fats......Woo! Too many!

5. Today ~ brekkie was a green smoothie (5 leaves romaine and 1/2 of a honeydew melon), snack was 3 apricots, lunch was a spinach/red leaf salad with tomatoes, yellow pepper and carrot/ginger dressing, snack was a handful of grapes, dinner was buckwheat sprouts with raisins, grated apple, bee pollen, and vanilla almond mylk.....then for a treat afterwards I had some raw brownie balls rolled in unsweetened coconut. Breakfast, snacks and lunch are typical of my day, but dinner usually consists of something more substantial like radicchio wraps with avocado, tomato, and ginger/garlic/lime dip. Oh, and lots of water!

6. I only eat sprouted chickpeas......I'm wary of others!

7. I'm not sure what that is! But if you want to, I'd say drink away!

1. I drink hot herbal tea. More in winter.

2. No black pepper. I read somewhere that is is acid forming -I also do not care for its spice. I use cayenne.

3. Just the name of it is enough of a turn off...

4. That depends on the person. I eat a small handfull of raw almonds or macademia everyday. Sometimes a little nut butter with raw veggies or other dishes during the day, though not everyday and more frequently during cold weather when I feel I need heavier food. Some people do better with more nuts, and some have to stay away from them. I seem to need some.

5. So far, 1/2 green smoothie breakfast (the second 1/2 is for mid-morning snack): 1 banana, 1 pear, big handful spinach, green powder, cayenne, 1 tsp hemp nuts, 1 tsp chia seeds. Lunch is either fruits or salad. Diner is huge green / veggie salad, sometimes with chickpea miso soup (not to warm so as not to kill the enzymes).

6. No beans. I look at them and just do not feel attracted to them, so no.

7. I do occasionally drink Odwalla. Used to much more than now. They seem almost too sweet now, though they are a good backup when travelling and other food is not readily available.

1. I drink hot tea. I do not let the water boil.

2. I eat freshly ground pepper. But you can also dry papaya seeds and ground them!

3. Is this like Spanish / Italien bacon? It is dried then, and often rubbed with milk. I do not eat any of that.

4. Maximum: 2 hands full. Less is much better.

5. I am so boring, I actually eat like this everyday:

Breakfast (in the office while working): fruits. Today probably apples, oranges and maracuya. Often it's half a
melon and papaya or pears or whatsoever. Bananas (can't see them any more).
I should eat it all in one sitting instead of eating it during working. So I could brush my teeth half an hour later and I am
done, but I don't.

Lunch (in the office kitchen): a huge salad. Whatever I have there: lettuce, coliflower, capsicum, tomatoes, avocado or
nut or olives, cellery ...

Dinner (at home): mostly salad again or friut smoothy. I have a - uki spezial - oil with dehydrator dried tomatoes, garlic
oregano and natural sea salt from the island where I live.

I prepare raw gourmet food only at the weekends - I do this to convince my not raw omnivore boyfriend. Or cook one vegan meal with salad.

6. I sometimes eat cooked beans in a salad - this for me counts as the weekend cooked vegan meal. Many cereals and beans have poison to protect them selves during growth. So be carefull. Eggplants are also not so good raw.

7. Odd what the ...? I do not eat any superfoods. Take magnesium sometimes, most vegetables and fruits are from our garden / finca: they are my superfoods.

I have never dried them myself, but in France and Italy you can buy them already dried (at what temperature I don't know). It was awhile since I ate them (before I went raw).
