Ok, so I am a Raw vegan, have been all raw for only approx 3weeks. I understand my body is now going through a type of detox, being that I have been pretty clean before i went all raw. What are some good foods to eat during these heavy pain times? I don't want to eat at all...most cases its makes me naucious and i throw it up. The cramps are to the point that i use 2 heating pads, one in the front and one in the back. I drink tea all day, a female balance tea, made from a local herbologist...(dont know everything in it) and when i dont have that, just drink chamomile w/ some damiana + a few others...just trying to relax my body.
If anyone has some other ideas, aside from the obvious...giving my raw food diet time to heal my body. I am confident that after a few months they will go away on their own, but i'm talking about the now.
Hi Jenna, 3 weeks is a short time on raw and I'm sure your cramps will improve over time. Herbal teas sound good and just resting. Some light stretching may help too. Green juices can be calming too providing it is warm enough where you are. Massage with warm sesame oil over the lower back will be nice too and then applying the heat pad. Good luck on your raw journey.

I totally sympathize! Fresh parsley tea is supposed to help cramps- you could drink a few cups and add a strong dose of ginger. The ginger will help the nausea, too.
Natural Calm powdered magnesium really helps relax muscle, including the uterus. Start with 1/2 tsp. and build from there.
It took a few months for mine to ease up, and even then, there is slight discomfort.
Sounds good...I already took my health food store trip for the day. I will look for the oil online. Thanks you all for your awesome suggestions...they are all exactly what i needed.

The cramps are indeed a detox and a sign of hormonal imbalance. Are you bleeding heavily too?
Just take it easy, get lots of rest and water (hot herbal tea is great for the stomach). I've found in the past that a lot protein makes menstruation worse - that includes eating lots of nuts, legumes, ect. Fruit and veggies are best. Hormone balancing herbs will help too, with time.
I did read something once about avocados being good for the female reproductive system, and they are rich in magnesium (which is good for cramps).
Bleeding isn't too heavy. Has gotten better since i turned all vegan, aside from being just vegetarian. That was a while ago, so for some time that portian has been somewhat under control. Im going to give the avacado a try and lay low on the seeds for a couple days. I know its a hormonial imbalance. I get a balance tea from a local herbologist, and when i drink it regularly the craps subside. So i know a few things that i can do long-term that will help, but i have been lazy recently and havent done any of them. So now here I am today, with pain and hating it. :/ Go figure. Thank you everyone for your awesome words...the support alone has magically helped my current state! :)
I havent read the 811 book...but its in the home library... :)- I will pull it out and see whats up. I do need to eat more fruit and if i lightened up on the nuts a little i would be on point. I think a lot of it is detoxing. My bodys personal house cleaning. I am a big believer of "treat the cause rather than the symptom"..I know what im in for long term wise to take care of these problems.
I don't eat a high fat diet, although recently i have been eating the shit out of durian...mmm, just had a durian smoothie. :) :) :) makes me happy. even in pain
and what are these transitional foods you speak of?
Ok..wow thank you for all the wonderful words. I dont endulge in raw pizza, crackers, or cakes. I eat 97% fruits and vegetables all day. and drink nothing but water, with a fruit juice every once and a while.(me being lazy and prefering smoothies) I believe that my diet does have a high fat content being that i eat seed cheese daily. But taking that down to a tablespoon a day or so would take care of that. I am a new TOTALLY raw person...a newbie as you called me. But my brain has known these things for a while. It has just taken some house cleaning so to speak, to be able to take them on full go.
Thank you so much...its amazing how you live... you can def tell you a are believer of 811....keep speaking your good words..
;) chantaburi thailand....any room for me?!?!?!? ;) Have a great Monday!

I fast during the first day of my cycle. I get very nauseous too, and so I take that as a signal from my body to avoid solid food. I stick to hot tea and kombucha (always helps a queasy stomach for me) and get a lot of rest.
Evening Primrose Oil has been helpful to me as well.
Thanks for posting! I went to the dentist today and was absolutely delighted when I heard the dentist comment to the hygenist, "she has beautiful teeth, doesn't she?"
WOW! Coooool! Haha, all thanks to raw food!!!
Yeah! I have been getting into apples big time, and discovering new ones that I have not tried before like the Honey Crisps! I always like the Gala too great for raw recipes!
Thank you for your positive words everyone. I've been raw for 8 months and it was simply dissappointing to have gone through such a binge! Besides I felt physically awful!
Onward we march from here! lol
