i'm not sure about the benefits or dangers of consuming breast milk from other mothers or when you're already an adult, but i'm sure this milk would be processed and it might bring the danger of exploitation of breast feeding women who could be wooed into giving up their milk to the company instead of giving it to their babies... especially if they're experiencing some financial difficulties.
ahh, maybe i'm wrong, but it just doesn't sound kosher ;)
I agree, share breastmilk if you have extra but I prefer to donate it via those Milk Banks for preemies and disadvantaged babies. With so many people (at least, that I know) choosing NOT to breastfeed, breastmilk is too precious to "waste" in some sort of culinary sideshow.
I actually looked into donating some before we relocated because I had a freezer full of stuff for the days I was at work but they only accept donations of at least 100 bags (I think in that park) and the way they explained it on their web site was that the donor milks are tested/screened for disease, etc and then pooled together and made "clean" by a low temp, agitated water bath before refreezing and being distributed to hospitals, NICUs that request it, etc. That's supposedly the best way to keep the inherent qualities of breast milk intact and still preserve the antibodies, etc. while dealing with it in a commercial sort of way.
my boyfriend was breast-fed by the neighbor when he was a baby (his mom was a busy doctor).
He has questioned whether this has contributed to the distance he feels between them. Interesting, no? A spiritual bond created between mother and child through milk?
Yes see I beleive that when a mother brest feeds her child, it creats a strong bond between the two. A mothers milk is created only for her child. Anyway thats what I think and beleive. I guess its all up to the mother that will donate the milk.
What I would be concerned with is what the other mothers who are selling breastmilk put into their bodies. Are they eating a SAD full of chemicals and toxins? Pharmaceuticals? I wonder if they will come out with "organic breastmilk."

Well I have submitted my breastmilk to a path lab for testing (paid for by my work, as I work in a mineral lab) my results are back but I have to wait for the safety guy to get back from holidays (he's back on Tuesday) I eat only organic, so I can share my results if you want?
I grew up in Boston and am up there all the time. There's a chance I may move back soon so I definitely want to know what you guys are up to. I didn't think there was a Raw Food scene in Boston.
