Tonight I brought a early stage raw foodie to PURE FOOD & WINE
Wow
I really thought she was going to have an orgasm!
She use the phrase "an explosion of flavor in my mouth"
Then it gets better we went to the take-out and got the marmalade (sp?)
I think she did have a orgasm!
My first visit to Pure Food and Wine was Nov. 2006. I went with 2 other people to celebrate my roommate Day's birthday- and what a celebration! We did the oh-so-amazingly decadent tasting menu, so we got to try practically everything. We were super new to raw food and were absolutely blown away! And then dessert came! I remember the ume plum and chamomile ice creams were my favorite part! I love being in San Francisco and having Cafe Gratitude available, though thinking about how deliciously elegant it is to dine at Pure Food sure makes me miss New York!
um, where to begin?? everything is beyond words, and the desserts are, indeed, completely orgasmic. I make the ones in Raw Food Real World for special occasions and am now addicted to the Gingerbread Cake with Cardamom Raisin Ice Cream, i wake up to cold and snowy landscapes here and dream about it!
I brought my kids there earlier this year. They were complaining "please don't make me eat that raw stuff". But they loved it! They insisted on seconds, and I could barely get them out of there. Whenever I'm in NY I make a point of getting there.
My first visit was with my husband in June '07. At this time, I was curious about raw but had not yet started my journey. PF&W definitely helped get me there! The menu looked so fantastic that we literally ordered one of about 80% of the menu and went through about 2 bottles of wine. We told our server to just start bringing things out in 2's & he kinda looked at us like we were nuts, but he was totally amused. He was like, "No problem!" My absolute fav's were the sushi, thai wraps, samosas, and lasagna. It was a great evening. We enjoyed it so much, and from that point I knew I would have to take the next steps to bring raw foods into my life.

My girlfriend and I just got back from a week + of raw food touring in the Northeast. The Pure Food trip was completely worthwhile. I had the corn tamales with the raw BBQ sauce (excellent!) and the ice cream sundae almost knocked me over it was so tasty.
The only drawbacks about it was the appetizer - butternut squash soup - not too tasty. And, I was also surprised to see no juice bar items on the menu. The majority of drinks there were alcoholic, and making anything virgin was a chore for our server. This may have dropped the prices a bit, but still - I'd probably pay $10 for an almond milk/coconut shake if I was there to dine and have a good time.
They also do use nutritional yeast in some of the "cheese" type dishes, so for those that do not use it, make sure you ask your server which dishes have them.
Fabulous time, though. I happened to like Quintessence better, as far as raw food in NYC goes, as the menu was more appealing and the flavor combination much more creative (they even had a raw runch menu!!) I will be back to the city soon, with much anticipated delight.
If that lady sees that picture of her licking the cup, Glen is gonna go bye-bye. I hope she never finds out that thousands of people are going to see that. Hilarious. I'm still laughing....
My first visit to Pure was 2 years ago. I didnt have the appreciation for it at first. Now I value the quality of the food and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. You can sit in there for hours and feel so at home. No matter what, you must always try some dessert if you are bringing someone new. A MUST!
I used to go to the Takeaway joint around the corner, and I'd been in there about a billion times before I finally decided to go the main restaurant. This wasn't until this past summer. It's a totally different vibe in there. It feels posh yet laid back, the food is amazing, and It just feels really awesome to be around people who share our strange, strange dietary habits.
Something to write home about. VERY intense. Well, It's California, for starters, and airplanes, hotels, where's my stuff? Oh, there it is, I'm spoiled, and I like to sleep and meditate and all that, and it all gets interrupted, and it's time to g...
