Yahoo has a story on their front page today entitled: " Chimps Prefer Cooked Food." The gist of the article is that chimps locked in captivity prefer the cooked food that's been presented to them. Here's a link to the article:
Further down the page are links to other livescience articles. One is entitled, "The Raw Food Diet: A Raw Deal," which tooks about the enormous benefits of eating a cooked food diet. The other story is entitled, "Cooking and Cognition: How Humans Got So Smart," which makes the astonishing case that we humans actually evolved and got smarter precisely because we began to cook our food. Here's a brilliant bit of analysis from their article:
In most animals, the gut needs a lot of energy to grind out nourishment from food sources. But cooking, by breaking down fibers and making nutrients more readily available, is a way of processing food outside the body. Eating (mostly) cooked meals would have lessened the energy needs of our digestion systems, Khaitovich explained, thereby freeing up calories for our brains.
Instead of growing even larger (which would have made birth even more problematic), the human brain most likely used the additional calories to grease the wheels of its internal functioning.
So eating cooked food made us more intelligent. Really???? Jesus, what a leap. It later goes on to say the "raw food movement" should be avoided. Anyway, it's pretty sickening stuff. It's like between the 20/20 story and these articles, it almost feels like there's a full-scale attack on this innocent way of eating.
exactly. one is defined by one's enemies so much that one's enemies are more instrumental at making you better and more adaptable than your friends. hence love your enemies and hate your friends as a cliche.

p.s. why would anyone, chimp or chump, prefer raw sweet potatoes and beef over cooked? ok, i guess there are arguments for this, but i certainly would rather eat a cooked sweet potato or *gasp* steak over the raw and/or bloody alternative.
Wow. People healing themselves with nutrition (I use myself as an example) must really be threatening. I could go on & on, but I think I'll expend my energy elsewhere. 80)
There is an article where DuPont paid $100 Million to residents that lived near Telfon Plant, they KNEW it is toxic and carcinogenic yet they make it get sued but still make it and people still USE IT TO COOK! MOST RESTAURANTS USE Teflon Non-stick so all the people eating out are getting it! Restaurants have to make food fast, wipe it down with a towel= teflon= cancer! In RAW there is no cooking or teflon needed or used! EVER!
Also not to mention Acrylamide a known cancer in Swedish countries they have laws of how much fast food you can eat or fries because so many people were getting cancer from it, they have smaller populations so can see and identify facts. We in USA have SUPER SIZE ME populations and peopel don't care, RAW solves this no cooking no teflon needed and no acrylamide:
Acryclamid occurs when you cook, bake, deep fry foods again RAW SOLVES THIS no acrylamide!
YAHOO is bought out by Advertisers who make BBQ ware, cookware, Sur La Table type stores they are giving in don't let them mess with us! Remember MEAT and COOKED FOODS spends $100 BILLIONS and McDonalds uses $200 MILLION as examples to advertise and get people hooked they will use any method or advertising or Yahoo to get to people, they WANT people to get sick, organic fruit and veggies only uses $2 Million a year to advertise! They use the MEDIA anyway they can you can see it all the time, magazines, Yahoo, movies, Celebrity endorsements don't let them get to you they SEE US THEY ARE AFRAID THEY SHOULD BE WE ARE WINNING AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE we only get HATERS when we are successful and getting attention I posted new Articles/INFO about Donna Karan and Super Model Carol alt on my website they are not new but to many there are news:
This is info on what they spend to get people hooked don't let them win they are scared we got them running lets RAWCK!!!
That is why I use TV to get the raw message out there! We can flip the script, what is happening is certain "industries" have Billions the meat industry has $50 Billion in sales each year, McDonalds is Billions sold. In Supersize me they showed that McDonald's uses like I think what was it $200 million a year to advertise? You can watch the entire movie for free:
At the bottom using the time code fast forward to 46:14 or 46 minutes and 14 seconds it is a scene that shows how much Meat/Junk Food/McDonalds uses on TV and Advertising a year to get people hooked on meat and junk food: $1.4 Billion for meat industry(They make $50 Billion a year), $200 Million(from McDonalds), fruits and veggies spends only $2 Million a year!
When I first found this way of eating--learned the nutritional information and experienced the results for myself, I wanted to tell EVERYONE!! I was so excited I just couldn't wait to share the information with people so they could feel as good as I did. I slowly realized that we are in fact in the Matrix. People who are plugged in do not want to be unplugged. Period. Only people who are willing to try something radically different are open to being woken up. So now I just live and eat for myself. It's the right thing for me. And I really couldn't care less about the biased, uneducated and untested thoughts of 20/20 or some staff writer at an online science magazine. (And I do read livescience.com) It's important to stay open to all thoughts and ideas, even those presented by the aforementioned organizations--after-all, that's what brought us to this point in the first place. But if information or theories don't stand up to solid facts based on your personal experiments and research, it can be seriously questioned. This is exactly the type of responsibility that many raw bashers don't have. Few if any have actually tried being raw, let alone stuck with it long enough to find the right combinations and amounts for their bodies. I wish them well. But if they want to believe raw is bad, they will do anything they can to confirm this.
is it me or has the media recently in general turning against us rawbies?
i think people cant handle being raw and are jealous/envious of the health benefits we all have..and now there is a backlash..lol
nutso ,man.
Ok but no one has addressed the lies they are putting out there and hiding the facts! I am about creating awareness, what about the BILLIONS and MILLIONS being spent on advertising/media/tv while organic fruit and veggies only spends $2 Milllion a year what is up with that? Not too balanced, it all goes back to Kevin Trudeau's theory that they WANT you to be sick! It is very profitable for you to be that way and so that way everyone is part of the "herd" because you are what you eat so if you eat meat you are the "herd" a docile dumb cow. Then you don't question anything and you just follow and you don't question the wrong wars we engage in constantly did you know instead of the Iraq war we could have saved the world and solve like every problem known to man? Seriously deep thoughts! There is this non profit group called Food not Bombs I love that! They take left over food, donations and they feed it to the homeless or to people who can't afford food, but they are about peace, health, etc. it gets a lot deeper everyone and there are plent of research that shows how animals die when they eat cooked food or processed foods, that chimp study is so fake! There are plenty where they shun cooked foods and go for the raw everytime, my "beef" if you will with the article or study is it is very biased on RAW foodists, and it is not accurate or scientific...they are scared, we are making a difference, they have lost their grip on the "herd" we now can think for ourselves, know what is right, what is good...we are making progress and they are noticing and scared and have to use fake tactics that will only reveal what they are really about! The RAW TRUTH will be revealed!!!
In this particular case, the problem is not Yahoo!--it's fair for them to publish information about new science that's being done--the problem is the scientist conducting the research, Richard Wrangham.
Richard Wrangham (the professor whose lab is conducting the research) is a professor at Harvard who intellectual bias is that he believes that it's IMPOSSIBLE for humans to survive on raw food alone, and that all rawfoodists will eventually develop anemia. So the problem is that of the researcher having intellectual prejudices that determine how he interprets the results of studies.
I know this because I'm a rawfoodist and graduate student in science at Harvard (and probably the only rawfoodist here :)), and both me and Professor Wrangham were interviewed for a piece on raw foods (well, it was mostly done on Grezzo, as a restaurant review) for the student radio station here. The student reporter was very skeptical of raw foods when I first talked to her. Then she went to Grezzo, and was floored by the food there :) Finally, for her radio show, she tried to eat mostly raw for a week. The reporter said she felt soooooo much better, and her mom even noticed that she looked better, saying that for her daughter's face didn't look as puffy. So by the end of the work the reporter did on the piece, she said to me that that she now believes me and thinks that Professor Wrangham is wrong. Unfortunately, she said that Professor Wrangham teaches in his classes that it's not possible to live on raw food alone. Wikipedia.org also gives a summary of Wrangham's controversial stance:
"Richard Wrangham, though only a chimp behaviourist and not an anthropologist or evolutionist, has repeatedly argued that cooking is obligatory for humans, and that cooking led to an increase of human brain-size. Since studies show that average human brain-size has decreased by an average 11% since 35,000 years ago, this could be true only if cooking was in common use long before that, during the increase in brain size.[3] [4] [5]. Wrangham has addressed this by hypothesizing that "it is possible that fire was controlled back to 1.6 million years ago"."
My take on the studies is that:
(1) Preferences for food don't always correlate with what is best for the animal--I know I don't have to state any proof of that, since evidence abounds :) A case in point in the news article itself: cats preferred cooked food, yet the Pottenger cats study showed that the cats eventually deteriorated on such a diet. The research does not address this incredibly important fallacy in logic, i.e. taste preferences do not directly correlate with how healthful a food is.
(2) Reading the article carefully, it said that for most foods, chimps, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans DO NOT HAVE A PREFERENCE between cooked or raw food, yet the two cases in which they did have a preference were taken as definitive and the research was billed in favor of cooked food...again Wrangham's bias. I'm sorry, but this is bad science. Period.
(3) Chimps don't eat sweet potatoes--it's not part of their diet--and it's extremely hard to chew sweet potatoes, so unless your natural diet involves tough roots, it seems logical to me that most animals would prefer cooked sweet potatoes. Plus, cooking sweet potatoes carmelizes the sugars, which would make the food more attractive for a fruit-eating species.
(4) Chimps may prefer cooked meat over raw meat, but see my other points. Also, chimps eat only a small amount of meat, about 2.5% on average, and 2/3 of that consumption comes during the dry season (2 months of the year), so meat is not a preferred food in the wild either. Also, it is unclear what Wrangham can really argue, because chimps don't cook any of their food!! If he argues that humans evolved from primates because we cooked our food, then how can chimps prefer cooked food (which they don't the vast majority of the time) if they haven't evolved yet? Perhaps he is arguing that animals are hard-wired to prefer cooked food over raw food, but if so, I find that hard to believe.
Anyhow, so the problem isn't Yahoo! per se, but rather the intellectual prejudices and bad science of a particular professor.
Marinated black olives are perfect healthy raw treat for any givin moment. I love having these marinated olives with a bowl of fresh wild baby rocket leaves or any mixed baby leaves and a glass of water.
