Give it to me Raw

Hey ladies,

I'm wondering what your thoughts are about methods of contraception that are the safest / least sketchy. I am not particularly interested in the pill simply because it involves synthetic hormones which I've been told by my Ayruvedic doctor I should try to avoid based on my body type. What are your thoughts about effective birth control methods, i.e. natural approaches? THANK YOU!

Does anyone know anything about IUDs? I'm really not a fan of condoms, so an alrernate method that doesnt eff up my hormones would be suuuuper.

I went in for the IUD procedure and I fainted... so clearly my body didn't want it. I would advise you to do plenty of research beforehand...

I have had my IUD for 10 years now, and I have had no problems whatsoever. Nora, I know that feeling, I almost fainted as well, due to them dilating my cervix. It's not uncommon for that to happen. I had a Copper T put in, but I have heard as of late that copper can cause inflammation in the body. Unless you've had a child or two, docs usually won't recommend it, due to the what ifs. It can migrate to the side of your uterus, and get stuck. Some women's periods get heavier. But like I said, I have been very lucky with mine, and I will be sad to see it go. :) I have never had any pregnancy scares with it either. It has been the best solution for me, since hubby seems to have super sperm.:) I wasn't supposed to be able to have children, and we had two a year and nine days apart from each other! :) He was going to have his "tubes tied" :), but we may have one more later. I could have another IUD put in, but it is an absolute pain (literally!!) to have it put in, and probably to get out as well!

I want an IUD. I recommend you read up on all the options. There is a hormone IUD(Mirena) and a copper one(Paragard). That's in the United States...It's different elsewhere.

The Paragard was approved recently to be used in women who have never had a child. Are you on LiveJournal? I would definitely recommend a community there that is specifically about IUD's. (iud_divas)

I agree with Nora. Do plenty of research and then some!

The Paragard must be the newer "version" of the IUD like I have. Since I have heart disease, the docs have told me it's best to have mine out, since you can develop clots. Although I would love to get another, just to be safe, I'm going for the least invasive for right now. But I am going to look up on the Paragard...who knows, it may work for someone in my situation.

I can't say for certain, as I myself don't have an IUD and these ladies can speak from experience but an alternative health practitioner told me they greatly increase the chance of cysts and fibroids. This seems true as most of my friends who have them have one or another of these, but they aren't raw or esp. health oriented. But they didn't get pregnant so ...

ugh. that's so disappointing. i knew there had to be a catch.

BARF! Thanks girl. Now I'm REALLY never getting one. I'll probably never be able to have sex with a girl now either.

Oh, please. You don't even know it's there. And if a guy can look that far up into your vagina, then there are some serious problems with your cootch! :) But they're great if you have a very active sex life with a partner that you've been with for awhile. :)

What if it's a partner you have not been with for a while??

Well, IUD would not probably be good for someone who doesn't have a steady partner. They are not the easiest thing to have put in or out, since it has to be done in a doctor's office. But if you are in a steady long term kind of relationship, it's wonderful to be able to absolutely spontaneous, and not worry about birth control! For short term relationships, condoms are probably the way to go, since they work for STD's as well.

STD's are bogus though.

It's very possible. 15+ years in the game, and you learn a lot, like how to reach your audience. You think he'll let me see his home in Hawaii?
