Give it to me Raw

Hey ladies,

I'm wondering what your thoughts are about methods of contraception that are the safest / least sketchy. I am not particularly interested in the pill simply because it involves synthetic hormones which I've been told by my Ayruvedic doctor I should try to avoid based on my body type. What are your thoughts about effective birth control methods, i.e. natural approaches? THANK YOU!

my husband and i did natural family planning....not only does it work, but you are more in tune with your own body, and so is your partner....basically you find your rhythm watch it for a few months, take your temp. and check your mucus viscosity. super easy and very reliable....and it is great if you ever want to have a babe, you will pretty much know exactly when you are fertile. if you need any info get ahold of me.....the farm made a great publication about it ill have to see if i still have it....it is called a cooperative method natural birth control i believe....

I just started using the Pearly http://ladycomp-babycomp.com/show.php/index It is a natural fertility monitor that you use to take your basal temperature each morning. For about a week or so each month, you need to use condoms, but not such a bad tradeoff, since The Pill is so damn scary. Also, I have used tips on Sister Zeus http://www.sisterzeus.com/ to bring on late periods before (that may or may not have been pregnancies). One such tip was 500 mg vitamin C every 2 hours for up to 10 days if your period is late. It is supposed to make your uterus a more hostile environment for egg implantation and to release the egg if already implanted. There is more information on Sister Zeus about this though. I consider it my "back up, back up" method.

Check out Blissfully Blessed's post on this, titled "Contraception".

“Back Up” Birth Control –These tips are summarized from www.sisterzeus.com. Please see website for complete information.

Queen Anne’s Lace Seeds (Wild Carrot) cited on Sister Zeus as having best reputation for implantation prevention. Scientific studies have documented success with this herb as a “morning after” solution. Take first dose within 8 hours of exposure to sperm, followed by another dose or two as needed. Best taken in tincture form (so you don’t need to chew the seeds)

Rutin found effective when 500 mg taken daily for several days following ovulation, or when taken following implantation and continuing until onset of menstruation.

Vitamin C can be inserted into the vagina immediately after sex if a condom breaks. Use two tablets. It increases the acidic environment of the vagina, making it less likely for the sperm to survive. You can also take 500 mg of Vitamin C (pure ascorbic acid without bioflavanoids, preferably a cheap kind!) every hour or 1000 mg every two hours for up to 10 days or until menstruation. Vitamin C can be used in conjunction with parsley and dong quai.

Thanks, Jen. Have you heard anything about neem oil? I have read that it has been used as a contraceptive in India for thousands of years. However, I'm still unsure EXACTLY how to use it -- i.e. if a suppository is required for maximum efficiency or if the oil can simply be applied externally to the man..?
But as for the basal body temp approach, I think it's great and would like to explore it myself. I might have some more questions for ya! :)

I have heard that it is usually taken internally by men in India. But it can also be used by women, I am just not sure how effective it is or how exactly to use it. I bought my boyfriend neem oil capsules to take as a "Back Up Back Up!" They are supposed to slow down the sperm.

Men can take it internally(but they have to use it for a certain amount of time to be effective) and women have to use suppositories/spermicide(neem). I think it's shown to be most effective when applied internally for the women, not the man.

Thanks for all this info ladies. I'll be honest, I know nothing about natural birth control methods. This is all very enlightening.

OK, I guess to me getting rid of anger and envy and fear in ones self before being able to externalize it on a corporate scale just seems common sense as opposed to religious. Is that really religious? Or is it just that he is a Yogi addressing th...

Rome was AWESOME, another fantastic HBO series. True Blood is also pretty cool, but I read the books so it's bittersweet for me. Did anyone else catch Carnivale? That was really well done as well.

It sounds like you are not eating enough fruit. If you eat more sweet fruit, your desire for candy and other processed foods that are sweet will go away.
