Give it to me Raw

So, I have my resolutions made:
1.) be organized
2.) be healthy
3.) be raw
4.) be fit
I believe that if I can keep up with the first one on the list, the rest will all fall into place.
After finishing up last year (just last night) by filling my cart full of raw goodies from Whole Foods, I came home to find kids in my kitchen eating cheese doodles and potato chips. Good thing I ate my salad on the way home!
I woke this morning, fully intending to get up, exercise for 30 minutes, and have my smoothie without interruption. I even managed to get the family to try a sip or two.
My daughter turns 15 today(Happy Birthday, Willow!) and she wants her usual lasagna birthday dinner. She's not raw, but I work it in when I can. I have the nuts soaking, the eggplant sliced and dried, and vine ripened tomatoes are ready.
I'd love to hear some suggestions from all of you out there on how to organize my kitchen. Some suggestions on:
* what staple foods do you find most necessary as a foundation for everything else?
* what cookbooks do you recommend for the noobie raw foodie?
* what shortcuts do you take to lessen preparation time?
See, I'm so new at this I don't even know what questions I should be asking. Happy new year's resolutions!

Happy new year and happy birthday, Willow! I can't believe you went to Whole Foods without me. Just kidding. I think I'm going on Thursday.

I have a ton of tips and stuff for you, but since I'll see you tomorrow at work, I can give them to you then :-)

Happy new year!

I haven't used many actual cookbooks. Ani Phyo's Ani's Raw Food Kitchen is pretty good, and some of the recipes in it are very tasty (they're also not that complicated). Some of my favourite recipes come from the Internet! Try checking out Mattye Lee's Vegan Kitchen (I eat a few of those recipes on a regular basis) and The Sunny Raw Kitchen (haven't tried anything from there yet, but just visiting makes my mouth water). Both have some yummy-looking recipes.

Oh, Duh! I had planned to change the "cookbook" part to UN-cooked books, but then I forgot. Thanks!
I went to the Mattye Lee's link (thank you) and was immediately drawn to the mushroom spinach alfredo. WOW, now that's what I'm talking about! I need realistic ideas with simple ingredients.
I just picked up Any Phyo's book 2 days ago and I'm enjoying looking through it, but I haven't tried anything yet.

Ooh, yes, these are great questions that I would love to hear the answers too as well! Shannonmarie, please share in writing, that way she can reference back whenever she needs to! (us too!)

Okay, maybe this will keep me organized. Usually shannonmarie gives me a link or a recipe on a post-it note and I put it in my pocket. Then, after a day at work, it goes home and up onto the windowsill where I dump out my pockets. Days later, I pick up the little stack of stickies and bring them out to the computer, where I look things up. Frequently I forget what I was supposed to be looking for because it's been a while. Maybe when she jots down these things for me I should go right here to pass it on?

Sorry, I couldn't find specifics on the box other than the name. I found them at a local grocery store. Sorry they're only in MD, VA, and DC. I only paid $10 for the 3-pack. They are one piece glass containers with a wrapping of metal. The name is Chefs Kitchen. "Storage Collection" Stainless Steel Window Canister Set. I found one on Ebay for $20 plus shipping. So you can at least see the details.
