Give it to me Raw

I've read countless posts and blogs about different experiences with good raw chocolate, and the "high" that goes with it, due in part to good quality tryptophan.

now, I've eaten my fair share of raw chocolate and have supplemented with decent amounts of the tryptophan in the past, and still have YET to get any type of high off of cacao.

the brands perhaps? Or is it more of a personal thing? Because when I'm eating raw chocolate, the only thing that happens to me, is either me wanting to eat more, or go fall asleep in the shade somewhere.

Ohhh I definitely get a major high - I turn into the energizer bunny big time - last friday night I was up until 6 am because I had choco pudding after work...I worked as a chocolate pusher at the New life Expo in June and I was wired the whole weekend. fall asleep in the shade?? really, you don't even get a little energy?? For me its definitely a "steady" energy - not a crash and burn sugar kind

If I have a green drink or wheatgrass THAT'S a whole different story, i'll be wigging like mad. But chocolate doesn't go shit to me.

the only legal high i've ever gotten was from extremely sleep deprivation in excess of 4 days, hah.

I went 6 days with no sleep back in high school and ended up going to school with a bathing suit top on and eventually passing out in the bathroom after talking to a squirrel. good times.

exactly. since I've had my fair share of, ermm, highs...when I first ate pure cacao, the way people were talking about it, I was half expecting something similar.

It does have a little to do with tryptophan, this is true, however it also has alot to do with theobromine (and the adrenaline/cortisol levels that come with it) which is a caffiene-like stimulant which kicks your heart, liver, adrenals and nervous system into action, as it says "ahhh poison, lets get it out as soon as possible"....

It will deplete your energy levels and adrenal function in the long term.

If you really dont react to cacao, its probably a sign not to take it, as your adrenals are likely already over-stimulated. Most people, react to cacao pretty strongly, even if theyre cortisol junkies. Those who arent, react even stronger, and it isnt a high, but more like an anxious/frenetic sensation which isnt pleasant.

Increased appetite comes about because cortisol inbalances blood sugar levels, since it increases requirement for sugar and vitamin C to support the adrenal glands recovery. Falling asleep comes from adrenal exhaustion.
