Give it to me Raw

Just curious as to what everyone thinks of gum chewing??? Believe me I know that it is the antithesis to raw- that it is basically chuck full of chemicals and rather disgusting, tacky and messes with digestion- but I don't believe that any of you never do it- what about xylichew or whatever Peelu..."health food store" chewing gum...anyways let me know what you think! and Happy New Year!

I've yet to find a sufficiently natural vegan chewing gum... so I haven't chewed in years! Chewing gum also gives me lots of gas... I think I swallow a lot of air. Yet another reason not to do it! LOL

Hi Meredith! I've been struggling with the same thing....to chew, or not to chew? That is the question! I haven't really looked, but I'm wondering about organic/vegan mints.....I'm sure there are some out there somewhere! I've tried health food store gum....I can't remember the brand, but it didn't do much for me....as soon as I spit it out, my mouth felt...um...."fuzzy". I've heard of chewing a few parsley sprigs after a meal, and that may do it, but I don't plan on carrying sprigs around with me all the time, so that may only work at home! I'm interested in what others think....

i eat vermints, a natural mint. they feel a bit grainy but i really like them.

i don't think they're raw, but they're still very nice.

I've chewed some raw honeycomb. It's waxy and chewy. Gets a little messy on your fingers and it doesn't last very long, but hey, it's something to satisfy any gum urges you may be having.

Yes honeycomb. I have chewed on that but not nearly enough- there is a really nice little man at the farmers market who always gives it to me and I love it- but I never think about it in place of chewing gum- not sure why not. For me the gum chewing thing is not so much of a breath issue as it is an oral fixation...I think I will go get some honeycomb soon.

i heard that you will over stress your jaw, eating my huge salad is work enough, hard to concentrate when that jaw is going like a cow, I admit i got rid the last girl i was seeing because she was always chewing gum and didnt care what i thought of it, pet peeve i guess, i just couldnt feel intimate with that jaw smackin

Gum chewing is my pet peeve, too. I could dive into a whole diatribe on the subject, but I won't.

Ahh... I am totally addicted to gum. I have like a pack a day habit. I haven't found a great natural one either. HELP!!

I feel like I have read that gum base comes from a tree. Someone needs to get me some as close to unprocessed gum base and fresh spearmint leafs or something.

from what I hear there are good reasons why not to chew..outside of the fact that its totally obnoxious! ;)....something to the tune of tricking your body into thinking that you are preping for digestion...it kick starts the stomach acids in anticipation, yet nothing follows, which doesn't sound too sweet for the ol' tum.....this leads to acid reflux and a number of other issues...which many people treat with ant acids....something tells me that chewin parsley may not have the same appeal..so I'm going to go with mer on the honey comb....it sounds devine....yet, I've never seen it...curious and motivated...

Before becoming raw (mind you this was only 2 weeks ago...) I was a compulsive gum chewer...and I'm hardly exaggerating. I had to have it all the time. But now I haven't had any in 2 weeks and I don't really miss it anymore. If it's breath you're thinking about or not wanting the taste of dinner in your mouth, I'd say just brush your teeth if you're at home. For emergency on the road instances, they sell these little things called "brush ups", I think crest or oral b makes them and they're a little rubber thing you put on your finger, and the shape of it cleans your teeth and leaves you with a little minty flavor in your mouth. Not sure if that would be better or worse for you chemical wise but you might wanna look into it.

Try chewing on cinnamon sticks, or cloves, or cardamom.
