Give it to me Raw

Hello,
I hope this post will be well received I know there are many postings warning of the pitfalls of obsessive weight control and eating disorders. As well as many postings about the great success people have dropping dangerous pounds eating raw foods.

The most wonderful thing about the raw food diet is that is sounds so simple. Thus in simple terms eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, soaked nuts, and dried fruits and you will see you health return and your weight stabilize.

But as some might know this doesn't work for everyone and a lot of people have to customize an eating habit to fit their lifestyle and body type (mine's a textbook Kapha type). That said. My goal is to shed an extra 10 pounds or less of fat that has me a little soft with a lil' Buddha tummy. Since I'm not overweight my body doesn't shed harmful pounds when eating an all inclusive raw diet right now.

I have been playing around with many ideas of cutting sugars and following a phase 1 diet of Gabriel Cousens (makes me crabby or I crave grains to compensate.) or Maybe a low glycemic fruit and veggie diet. or a green smoothie diet....or...my dilemma is there are so many written resources about how to try to meet your goals. I wanted to lean on your guys tried and tested wisdom of what do you do when you want to slim down and trim up. What part of your diet do you focus on to get yourself back to your ideal weight or keep yourself there?

I, too, did not lose weight when going raw a few months ago. It was not until I read 811 in July that I dropped 7 lbs., bringing me down to 114 (probably would have lost more but I slipped at a few raw potlucks). The great part is that I am eating SO MUCH and have zero cooked carb cravings, which is unheard of for me. I'm looking forward to [hopefully] dropping another 5 in August :)

80/10/10 is what has worked best for me too. Whenever I eat too much fat my digestion slows down and my tummy blows up.

I have no idea what ayurvedic body type I'm supposed to have, and I don't mean to sound arrogant here, but I could not care less.

Have you ever seen a cow go "oh no, i can't eat that type of grass cause I'm pitta"?! ;)

If you read dr grahams book you'll see that there is a difference between glycemic load and the rankings in the glycemic index :)

I don't know about 80/10/10 (maybe I'm just underinformed because haven't read the book yet,) but I can definitley say I do't d well with high amounts of fat. I haven't since I was 16. Ever since then I've wanted to go more towards lower-fat, raw stuff. Oils killed me and made me feel like crap for hrs, same with any high-carb, high fat meal. Now it's actually gotten more so. Even more large amounts of avocado ( 3/4- a whole,) or more than a small handful of nuts at a time makes me feel horrible.

Thanks for the info for the 80-10-10. I haven't read the book yet and I have never actually started to look at the diet though I heard the numbers thrown around a bit. I think I got a lil' fruit phobic from going through a series of candida issues. I will definitely keep looking at 80-10-10. It's funny that all the posts so far agree on more fruit.

-The Kapha body reference was for if you are familiar with the classification it will give you some insight to my body and issues without explaining a bunch in the post. I don't eat according to body type in that regard. But maybe that also contributes to some of my tummy.

Thanks for your info and directing me toward a new diet concept!

I've had candida. Eating low fruit and high fat never did wonders for me in that regard. Eating low fat, high fruit however...I'm candida free :)

Dr Graham explains all this in his book.

I'm not saying it's the only way to get rid of candida, but it sure is a nice one.

Hey,
So I have not read 80/10/10, but due to all the talk about it on this site I ordered it. I found the best things for weight loss are including more greens and food combining!. I love fruit, but I have Candida issues, but found if I eat them by themselves for breakfast or lunch it is not really a problem. Also, Ayurveda is amazing, I would say include fruit that is not too sweet or heavy. Like apples or poms, even pears, and all berries should be fine. Maybe avoid mangoes and really sweet fruit. Look for the food craving chart somewhere on this site, it tells you what nutrients you are missing that cause cravings, it is awesome.

I hear so many different conflicting things regarding whether or not you should eat fruit or just stick to mainly vegetables if you want to loose weight. Is it really how much sugar you eat or in the end doesn't it just come down to calories in calories out?

hi magical I use to fast before I was a raw vegan so I did not feel I needed to detox first. But everyone is different. I think if someone is doing drugs and other things they might want to wait to do a long fast.
