I have just started reading Gabriel's book Concious Eating and I love it already! What a masterpiece! I just flicked trough some pages and found that he suggests a 80% rawfood diet for Kapha people (like me :)
But what would that be? Include Tofu, some steamed veggies and boiled millet or what? Or am I just thinking I am 100% raw at the moment when I'm really not cos my cashews and dried fruit might be not raw, and I eat shoyu etc...?
What do you reckon? Has anyone else read the book? Please advise! :)
kapha is heavy and wet, as are most raw fruits and veggies that we eat. so the best food for a kapha person would be quinoa, buckwheat, lentils, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds. ayurveda is one of the only philosophies that i fell in love with instantly but i will never believe that cooked food is better than raw. so instead (as a fellow kapha person) i try to incorporate more vata/pitta raw foods and maybe sprout these things instead. you can always dehydrate them later to remove that wet quality but i just can't come to terms with the fact that eating dead/toxic food will balance my doshas!
see, thats exaclty what I think too. and I dont think Gabriel is saying Eat cooked foods! Since he is such a life-food pioneer...I guess what he suggests is a little warm tofu and millet coocked since this is hard to digest and not so tasteful raw, I tried it! :) from time to time. Buckwheat and the rest I eat sprouted or soaked, which feels fine. And I feel so good now, I dont want to incorporate cooked foods in my diet again. But he reckons to leave heavy nuts, olives and most oils away since theyre too heavy, which I found interesting and sounds true to me. since Kapha people have a tendency to gain weight easily and loose it with difficulty.... :)Also the lifestyle tips are great to read, many of them I had already found out for myself, but its good to have it confirmed here... :)
My 20% non-raw is the occasional steamed veggie if that's all that's avail; i,e, catering on set. Also, quinoa or black rice. And rice milk, since no way am I going to have the patience to soak nuts over night and strain them through a bag to make my own nut milk. Some meat used to be included in my non-raw section, but I quit meat and dairy a few months ago. Maybe I'll eat animal products again, but I'll always be very high raw.
Don't get caught up in percentages. It's a literary device. Just make sure you're high raw throughout the day, which means plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, either whole or liquified. If you have one cooked dish, don't beat up on yourself.
Thanks Loren, right back at ya ... I've enjoyed reading and absorbing your input : )
I should also warn that unripe mango can cause similar problems, especially bc it is in the poison ivy family. Some people can break out in itchy rashy hives and...
