Apparently they contain all 8 amino acids, which is great for someone that regularly works out.

By the way, I have hemp powder and it's quite gritty - don't know if that's just the place that I bought mine from. It can be quite a tough job getting it down the hatch, even when blended with a full lime and various other fruits, but that's preferential to myself it might be different for others.

I've actually started eating dehulled hemp seeds. They're awesome! I've started adding them to everything and I think that this is the start of a long-term friendship :)

There are more than 8 amino acids. There are however 8 essential amino acids which means that they are amino acids that are not synthesized by the body.

I throw them straight in the blender. They have a very balanced omega 3/6 ratio and they have lots of GLA, which is great for hormonal imbalances, PMS, skin problems, etc. They're very mineral rich, esp. magnesium. Also, they have a better protein-to-fat ratio than most other nuts and seeds, so you don't have to load up on a bunch of heavy fat just to get a little protein. Your smoothie sounds a lot like mine:)

Hemp has an amazing ratio of Omega 6-3 oils in it. I know some people say flax is the best for this, but some 'experts' on the subject claim that hemp is more suitable, and I tend to agree. You don't have to grind the seeds, as I find that hemp hearts are one of the few seeds that is actually quite soft - they won't pass through you like flax will, for example. Also, the heat from grinding them may damage the enzymes. You certainly can grind them if you want, but I really don't think it's necessary - they're perfect the way they are! They're one of the healing foods I eat every single day - and I notice a huge difference when I don't.

Yay for hemp!

I eat them straight off the spoon sometimes. :) I love the taste, so I feel like they're just too good to be masked by the other flavors in a salad or smoothie. They sure do make recipes creamy, though.

I bought some recently and have been tossing them on my salads, eating them plain by the small handfull. They are great in smoothies too. Your smoothie sounds great, I have to try that.

i think hemp and flax are the KEY to why I've been able to get off anti-depressants after 15 years of them.

Hi LOVEBUG,
Hemp seeds contain:

A perfect balance of Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3 and 6) as well omega 9.
A high level of easily digestible protein containing all eight essential amino acids.
The highest level of vitamins and minerals of any edible seed.

I cut up fuji apples and spread hemp seeds all over them. Two apples like this is a complete meal.

Second best source of protein/amino acids, behind spinach and lambsquarters (or most dark leafy greens, for that matter)

Great stuff. I hope you enjoy!

Men may want to try hemp seeds in Brazil nut milk with a pinch of both sea salt and kelp powder (blended with vanilla, water, and a sweetener of your choice, which might be dates).

The essential fatty acids in the combination of hemp seeds and Brazil nuts increases testosterone.

But, while Brazil nuts have beneficial nutrients, it is probably not a good idea to eat Brazil nuts too often as they can overload you on selenium, leading to brittle hair and nails.

This hemp/Brazil milk also works well for those in physical training as the hemp and Brazil nuts provide amino acids (for protein), and the sea salt and kelp powder provide minerals. I also add mesquite powder and a fruit (usually banana or mango) or berries (usually black or blue). This is also rich in enzymes with an added benefit of the globule edistins in the hemp.

Right--it's good in smoothies too. It's a necessity when there's no fruit in there!

In water with a twist of lemon or lime, in teas, in water (with flavored stevia), and with millet or quinoa.

Hi Lizz, I haven't tried yacon; I think it's still too sweet, technically. I believe stevia is truly the only natural sweetener that is not a form of sugar. When I add vanilla flavor and a little coconut oil to the stevia, it's kind of like maple...
