Give it to me Raw

Can I just say, if you haven't read this book, go buy it NOW! It is simply wonderful. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on nutrition, but man, this study just blew that theory out of the water....I am only up to the part about protein consumption and cancer, but man--I had my husband read it and he's "scared straight"!!!! No more meat for him!!! (not that he had it that often anyways...)

I totally agreea bout the "great big advertisement"...you're absolutely right. So depressing to think that everything we've learned is a lie!! And then you hear about that teacher getting fired for teaching about veganism, when all over the classroom are posters with exhortations to "drink you milk"...sigh....

I can only hope that the power of a few individuals preaching the good will overcome the many still hanging onto the bad...the meat, the milk, the cheese.

dude, on page 243 of the chapter 'how to eat' there is a table that says 'eat all you want (while getting tons of variety)'

included in this table are sections for fruits, flowers, stems and leaves, roots, legumes, mushrooms, nuts and whole grains.

If you find the book a slow read, you can buy it from Amazon on cd. I have been listening to it and it's fascinating. My name is Lori and I'm new around here. Nice to meet you.

I read this book right before my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went vegan straight away. Fortunately her cancer was small and she didn't need chemo, but the changes she made have positively affected her rheumatoid arthritis and other health issues.

This is so great to hear Omshanti. I am a big "fan" of arthritis success stories due to eating raw. How "raw" is your mom would you say and how much improvement did she have if you could put a number on it?

Honestly though, aren't his conclusions a huge logical fallacy due to the fact that correlation does not imply causation. I think he has the best intentions, don't get me wrong. I just find it misleading to make all these claims based from correlational studies. If you go by those standards, studying the long lived Okinawans for example, one would conclude that we should all eat animal products, grains and soy.

Like wouldn't people who ate more protein also probably have lived in polluted cities, and drank, smoke, eaten sweets, had more stress and so on... I admit I haven't read the book so correct me if I'm wrong. I plan to check it out soon. I just don't get how everyone and their mother seems argue that this book shows that certain foods are bad based on correlations.

Xander,

Its not just about correllation, he also talks about studies they did before the china study. For example, they tested to see which proteins triggered the growth of tumours when exposed to carcinogens like dioxin and alfatoxin, and accounted for amount of protein consumed. So for example what effect 5% of total calories coming from casein in dairy, then 6% then 7..10, 1, 12, 14, 20 etc etc etc. They noted really interesting things like with every increase by %, tumour growth would go up alot. after 10%, every % increase caused an exponential increase in tumour growth. When casein was removed from the diet tumour growth slowed down to negligible amounts. Then they tested waiting periods, like if they withold those foods for so many months then reintroduce them, will growth start immediately.

I thought it was really interesting personally, and I would recommend it to anyone to read.

Take care

Yeah, when I first read this book about a year ago it got me excited because all the information was so well researched and documented over such a long period of time. I was really excited that the main stream would latch on to this information and we would finally see some kind of REAL information the the world could use. But of course it did not, or at leaste has yet to have that effect on the mainstream media. But, in any case the information is very valueable and I think it willl make help make the case for what we are all trying to spread here.

If you don't want to read it, let me sum it up for you.
