Give it to me Raw

Because of a great thread on GoneRaw, I collected and drank my first rain water yesterday. Since most bottled water and all tap water has been heated, this is most likely the first time I drank raw water. I can't believe I have not been doing this. I live in the UK and hate buying water and it falls from the sky for free (a lot). Why didn't I think of this before. It was really nice tasting, fresh and heavy! I only put an old bin out in the back gaden and in a few hours, I had quite a good amount. I am going to buy one or two large wash tubs and get serious now!

Anyone else doing this?

hey Chris, do you not worry about contamination from air pollution? I might be less reluctant to try if it was rain gathered over the Scottish Highlands, perhaps... not that I want to spoil your happy new finding. sorry!

The person who wrote the post on GoneRaw lives in New York. I do think about polution, but it seems to me that the water is cleaner than the air. I half expected the water to be brown, yet it wasn't even cloudy. I know that polution may well be invisible in the water, but it feels right at this point. I breathe this air 24/7 and I can't see how some rain water could add very much more of what I am already getting. You should read the post on GoneRaw. It is very long and detailed. People report big changes that are exciting like having their "cooked" cravings go away and being satisfied with less food now. I'll keep posting about how it goes and what I learn.

Chris, what a great idea and one I would like to try myself. I live in So. California though and since we've been in a drought for a while I may have to just pass YET it actually rained the past couple of days and now I wish I'd read your post sooner.

Keep us posted on the health benefits your enjoying.

That sounds really interesting - will have to read that post! ;o) Back home in Norway I wouldn't think twice about drinking from rivers in the mountain, but when I suggested the same while hiking in the Lake District, my friends thought I had gone loopy! I had some "wild" water back home in Norway in July... it tasted great as usual, but also incredibly sweet - guess some cloudberries must have found their way into the river water, lol!

Interesting to hear. I looked into this a few months ago, but I hadn't heard of any raw foodies doing it. I was going to do it, but I have no yard and I don't like to drink out of plastic. I don't know where to find glass containers the size of a trash bin. :) Let us know how it goes!

Hi!
Hmm, never tried rain water. Back home we just water our garden with it. :)
Although at home (in Austria) we have our own spring (not sure if that's the correct English term) in the garden where we get the water from. Excellent water I have to say! So here in the UK it was quite odd for me that the tap water tastes like crap. I've got one of those filters now, which makes it tolerable.
Would love to try rain water, but I live in halls and don't really know how to do it...
Anyway, it'd be interesting to hear from your experiences.

fresh natural water is incredible! i used to love drinking straight from the creek at our family cabin in the interior of B.C. i would fill bottles and bring it back to vancouver so i could enjoy the trip the flavour took me on. it's sad that we have stopped drinking that wonderful natural water because we have noticed cows have been in and out of the creek! *grumble* one thing for native animals to splash around in the creek or what have you but these are herds of cows generating lots of shit...and who knows what they eat or are injected with :/

hi jinksT,

its upsetting to know that we live with the most beautiful rivers, streams and lakes in North America and our tap water is full of crap.

It just doesn't make sense to me. WE really have to pay attention to our rivers and what is happening with them if we don't they will be privatized and sold off for $$$.

I know up north they are fighting to protect the skeena river and surrounding areas and in halifax they are wanting to start a uranium mine.

this will ruin all rivers and streams and I cannot imagine the damage in the long run.

awareness and conciousness in regards to all of our water sources are a must in this day and era.

hold onto your fond memories.

i have them too.

yours in trust.

Interesting thought. We live within 30 Km of a coal-to-oil refinery, so I think I would probably get it tested first. Not sure what is in the air.

I hope you live on some desolate farmland because acid rain is nasty

From what Zoe tells me, it's not really your local area that your rain comes from. She says that for example Holland has acid rain really bad but it comes from another country. Holland is very pristine, yet their rain is not. This is why they grow so much hydroponic food. Our rain here in NW England comes in from the ocean riding on the jet stream. I'd love to know more about this if anyone has info.

Fascinating topic. Something so simple, yet I doubt I'd have thought of it. I drink my filtered tap water, but I'm concerned that there may be fluoride added to it? I'll have to try this. Thanks for posting.

Ani Phyo would be good, given your ingredients. I like Ani Phyo's Raw Kitchen. Her stuff is very sweet and heavy, though, IMHO.

Yeah, never much thought at the time though as it was late at night and had been about 40 degrees here. Oh well. I am so familiar with the way the Engish and Irish talk that I just assume everyone is the same with the kiwis and Aussies.
