im 24 with ulserative pan colitis. that means my immune system is confused and is trying to kill my large intestine. i havent been able to eat any fruit, veggitables, whole grain or any other form of fiber for well over 6 years without getting very sick. Is there a way that i can still get the foods i love and miss without getting very sick, and can good foods stop my immune system from going haywire? I really want to avoide surgery if i can but my disease wont ever go into remission. can anyone give me any suggestions?
I have a possible solution for you. Often, when i see auto-immune conditions in my clinic, I give reishi mushroom as a remedy. This is because it has the ability to modulate certain responses within the immune system. In cases such as this, the immune system is developing antibodies for your own body tissues, and destructive immune responses are instigated against your own tissues.
Reishi, to cut a very long and complex story short, can dampen down antibody mediated immune responses. The immune system has essentially two distinct branches and ways of operating. These two branches are non-specific, and antibody mediated (the type of responses that are a little haywire in your case). These two branches are mutually inhibitory states - meaning that when one response is activated, the other is supressed, they cannot be active at the same time!!
Reishi can cause the immune system to power off into the non-specific branch. It does this by duping the body into thinking it is under a certain type of attack. When it shifts into the non-specific state, the reactions attributed to antibody mediated reactions are dampened down, and associated symptoms are greatly reduced.
Im not saying that this is going to eradicate your condition, but it will certainly tone things down a great deal. Ive seen it in practice.
Id also recommend a concentrated extract of turmeric, as this is a powerful anti-inflammatory.
a lady at the hematology clinic i go to mentioned reishi mushrooms once, but the I.V. made me so drowyz i missed almost all of what she said. how should i take reishi and turmeric to help me heal? i think she said something about a tea form when she mentioned reishi but i was mostly asleep ^^;
Id advise reishi in capsule form - preferably new chapter or mushroom science (if you are in the US, new chapter or MRL if UK). The tea is NOT for the faint hearted. It is sooooooo profoundly bitter that even the most hardened of herbalists cant gulp it down!! Id say 4-6 capsules daily, split between morning and evening.
Same goes for turmeric, the tea is gross and you will have an orange smile from now until eternity...lol. Id get a decent brand capsule, maybe solgar or a company of that calibre. You are looking at about...1 cap twice daily.
Wow! That is awesome. He looks great! I need to cleanse my lymphatic system. Any suggestions? Also, great page. How did you get the background and design on it? (~_~)
Using a dry brush every morning before a shower - learned that one from Natalia Rose and even though I don't do it every day, the days that I do it and my skin goes a healthy pink colour - I can feel the blood circulating really well and I have this curiously orgasmic feeling all over my skin for the rest of the day. You don't even need a dry brush - you can use a natural sea salt exfoliator - that's what I do. Just scrub it like you're cleaning off the dead skin cells.
I would say take it slow, introduce 1 food at a time..and be persistant. if all you can handle is smoothies, then do just that.
It isnt easy, I would be lying if I said its been easy to kick my crohns to the curb..but its gone and I dont even intend to take another steroid or painkiller for it in my lifetime!!
Keep your chin up, it is more than possible, it can be hard to retrain your brain after years of being told no fibre, no veggies, no fruit..basically to live on crap.. I was living on babyfood and crackers before this. Cant express in words how much this has given me my life back! Medication free now over a year
Anyways just wanted to wish you well and let you know your not alone! plenty of ex crohnies and UC sufferers around..that are now 100% healed! yipee!
Peter! Are you taking steps to feel better yet? If you have any questions, trouble or need support I am right down the street. I do understand what it's like to feel terrible and have to drastically change my diet.
My name is Anthony and I also suffer from UC. I just joined this site because I want to try out the raw food diet. After doing tons of research I came across a book called "Healing Inflammatory Bowel Disease" by Paul Nison. He had UC in his early 20s and healed himself with raw foods. He is my inspiration at this difficult time in my life.
So I highly recommend you read his books. And contact him on this site. He is very nice and knowledgable in this area.
I hope we can all work together to beat his devastating disease.
That sounds like fun.. There is a thing called double dutch where two girls hold two ropes and you have to jump them both at the same time.. maybe you could find a couple of girls to try this with you. It's pretty impressive when you see it..
