im 24 with ulserative pan colitis. that means my immune system is confused and is trying to kill my large intestine. i havent been able to eat any fruit, veggitables, whole grain or any other form of fiber for well over 6 years without getting very sick. Is there a way that i can still get the foods i love and miss without getting very sick, and can good foods stop my immune system from going haywire? I really want to avoide surgery if i can but my disease wont ever go into remission. can anyone give me any suggestions?
Hey there Peter, I got rid of Crohn's disease thanks to the raw food diet. And I know of other people with Crohn's or ulcerative colitis who have. Basically, you need to get yourself a book called Self Healing Colitis And Crohn's by David Klein. I think you can buy it on Amazon. It is very short but very powerful. It'll help you understand what ulcerative colitis really is (which is essential if you want to heal) and it'll help you on your path to recovery.
Here's a website you need to consult ASAP: http://www.colitis-crohns.com/
Good luck! I'm sure you can do it. If you're here, you're already on the right track. Believe me, I know how horrible this disease is... But think of it as a gift and a wake up call! I'm quite confident that you'll soon be eating loads of fruits and vegetables. Do not despair!
awsome! no one i know has been anywhere near as helpful as all of you.they all get confused and dumb struck when i tell the about colitis and if they have advice. thanks ill go get this book asap ~^_^~
That's pretty awesome man, you beat Crohn's disease. I know someone that has it, and they have a pretty poor diet by the sounds of things. I wonder if they would heed this info and change their life.
I just found this book about a month ago as well. I've had UC for about 6 years now and reading this book has given me hope I didn't think existed. I've been following the diet 98% accurately and I'm not gonna lie, I've been going through a heavy detox and it's been hard. I'm in some pain now but it's bearable. The idea is to let your inflammation run it's course. Inflammation is good, it's your body's emergency healing response and taking drugs to reduce inflammation is only going to fight your healing system.
I'm off all meds now so I'm inflammed like a mofo lol.. but now that I understand what is going on in my body, it's easier to deal with. Just add new foods slowly! he recommends a lot of bananas and I think they've been killing me so I stopped eating them and feel better.
So I'd definitely recommend getting that book and giving it an honest try. Like you, I've been suffering for over 6 years, what's another couple months? Most people heal within 2- 8 weeks, and I bet I'd be better off if I didn't eat that damn pita with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and green peppers. Your not supposed to eat raw veggies during the healing phase and I learned that the hard way! Juicing is your friend, get a juicer if you don't have one.
Let us know how it goes! UC is totally curable so just think about that and find the best way to get yourself there. And keep asking questions I'll help with anything I can.
well v8 is poison in a can lol. juicing is the easiest thing on your system for sure. you just have to pay attention to what you make your juice from. for me watermelon is great but cantelope seems to give me a reaction. the longer you are raw, the more in tune you will become with your body. centrifugal juicers remove pretty much all the fiber, and masticating types keep some. you get more nutrients with a masticating juicer and you can always strain out the pulp if you want. I just got an omega 8005 and it's amazing!
I'm here to wish you all the encouragement and positive energy possible! Raw food is very healing, and although I haven't experienced what you are, I healed myself from cancerous cervical cells, irritable bowel syndrome, candida, mood swings, and more. I really believe that you can use raw foods to cure yourself - it looks like reuben and kasey gave great suggestions!
first i can say is be open minded - then start looking around for alternatives - there are more natural alternatives then their are unnatural alternatives, always remember this. an unnatural alternative only lead down two avenues that i can think of - one being pills and the next ending in surgery.
for 7 years i suffered greatly from liver disease and to top it off i had chronic gallstone attacks every single day and each time i ate any food, it left me in pain for 8 to 16 hours. it totally ruined my days, life and relationships. it took me about a half a year afterwards to properly communicate with people again as i secluded myself from people and a natural social life. I'm not sure how i got over it - it seemed like everything was against me to gain proper recovery. all i know is that something sparked in me when they gave me 7 bottles of pills that i had to take 3 times a day, resulting in me taking nearly 21 pills each day. or it may have been my last few trips to the ER room where they told me that they needed to cut me open to "fix me". those had to be the two biggest turing points in my life.
since you know that solid foods effect you - you should not take solids at all until you know that you are able to deal with solids again - this i can say clearly because of what i have read. start making changes that you can make to make your body as comfortable as it can be. i would try soups, and it doesn't matter if there cooked or raw at this point - soups are a good way to get the food you need in your system with minimal harm, when i travel and i start to feel ill on trips and i don't have access to my herbs i drink soup broths until i'm better, its a way of getting what you need and resting the body enough for it to heal itself quickly - your body needs to heal itself via rest first. next i would start looking for information on your illness and find out what others have done. at this point its not about going raw its about getting better to be able to go raw if thats what you choose to do - if your up to it then try some juice fasting for a day or two and see how it goes and continue if you like it - at this point absolutely don't do anything you don't like or makes you feel worse.
i would also talk to a naturopathic doctor, that you like and a herbalist if possible. by me using a combination of herbs and juice fasts i was able to cure myself of a very bad disease/disorder in a very short amount of time. I'm still into herbs, i use herbs in combination with raw foods to restructure my system in the easiest way possible, its been nice to see more and more raw foods people getting back into herbalism. its and extraordinary combination.
the more open minded you are the faster the information will come to you to cure your problem. for those 7 years i was very closed minded - i didn't even know what the problem was - the doctors kept telling me it was a stomach problem, they were wrong, they looked at my coverage and treated me in that fashion, however my normal friends and extended family kept on telling me i might have a liver problem - i wasn't open minded enough to listen to them, sometime it would just come out of know where and i kept denying it. sometimes the cure its right in front of you and sometimes we never care to listen to it, its one of my mistakes that i only offer to you as a helpful advice.
look every where on the net when you have spare time. there is a web site that i love its called life-enthusiasts.com - they sell products but they have a ton of information on various illnesses on their site - please read a bit from there and call them or e-mail - there is one guy that answers the phone - he runs the business he has helped me and many other for years - he does this from his heart. he was one of the few people that has really got me thinking differently about my health. man i hope this helps you out seriously, any time i get sick now which is hardly ever but when i start to feel something coming i absolutely go rambo, and finish it off before it even starts. if i was you the first thing i would do is to start using ormus minerals( nano minerals) or ionic minerals. life-enthusiasts sells them, sunfood.com sells them and a company called adya minerals has them as well. just try it for 15+ days as prescribed and see what happens, if it doesn't work just drop it like a bad habit. but its very important to try everything that you feel is good, you can a will find the answer.
its not that i cant eat solids, thats ok for me. i can have meats, dairy, starches like white rice and pasta. its just fruit, grain, and veggi fiber as well as spicy foods, small amounts of alchoul, and to much caffine really iratate my intestine. ill actually bleed after i eat the stuff (the trouble really starts when it hits my large intestine). very small amounts seem ok but ill still feel pretty sick when i do. but ill have to go check the info you gave me its sounds really promising
Kasey's right. The detox period can be really full on but it's really worth it. You may very well loose a lot of weight. Before I started detoxing I weighed 133 pounds and I'm 5'11". So I was not a very big guy to start with but during my detox I went from 133 pounds to 94 pounds in 2 weeks!! As David Klein explains in his book, this is normal and healthy. The body's basically getting rid of the mordid toxic overload. I'm now back to 133/135 pounds, but now it is healthy weight.
Take some time off and get yourself a juicer, a blender and a steamer if you can. They will be your best friends whilst detoxing and healing. It's a good investment anyway as you will carry on using the first two if you stick to a raw diet after recovering.
Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have some.
wow man that is a lot of weight! makes me feel better though, I was 135 lbs when I started and now I'm about 120. so not quite as extreme as yours. what kind of things did you eat in the beginning? or was it mostly juicing?
Go Germany! I'm no longer working with The LifeCo & Saf in Muc, or organising events, workshops & talks in Muc, as I am abroad. I still consult clients & can provide your fave superfoods. My RawCacaoLove chocolate can be ordered through me directly.

I'm serious, just go to the grocery store, buy all kinds of celery, kale, cucumbers, carrots, and whatever else you want, and juice is all and only drink juices for as long as you can!
It feels so good, I can't even describe how amazing I feel ri...
my magic bullet burnt out, it was good for travelling while I had it though. Can you get a second hand blender? The cheaper ones I have used don't chop up the greens as well. Try to get something with a higher wattage, like 1000watt.
