So my parents made me read this article in a news paper. It was about a family on a raw vegan diet, and the chicks kids had gotten holes in their teeth and were stick thin...and they all craved dairy.
So it looks like raw made them ill.
They ate loads of fruit, veg and seeds and took b12 and d supplements, yet they were sick....
I can't find an expination for my parents, I can't even find one to give to myself...
Wow, I'm so mad about this, great idea about writing in Chris, I am off to do that. Please join me! I really think people need to know about how amazing raw food is, we should be getting this out to as many people as possible.
Without sitting down with the head of the family and preferably having consultations with the children as well, for at least a couple of hours, who could possibly know?
Whenever I attend an event, party, protest or similar and see the reporting in the newspapers the next day, I am always struck by how inventive the reporters have been in sensationalising the situation. Their creativity really knows no bounds.
Who knows what the state of their health was before embarking on the diet? How long they took to transition? Whether there were any complicating issues such as constipation or parasites delaying their healing? Maybe the kids were drinking orange juice all day or sneaking cookies and milkshakes whilst at their friends houses. We'll never know.
I believe it is almost pointless speculating in such cases. It's amazing how we make judgements- just seeing a friend for example whilst they are detoxing can convince us that they are doing themselves harm if they look gaunt and spotty. But perhaps they had the most stressful day ever or didn't have time to eat, or perhaps they need a colonic to aid the detoxification process. Perhaps they aren't drinking enough water. Only the individual and their healthcare practitioner will know the full story (assuming they have a good one and are truthful with them)
No they ate raw dairy. I have been dropping into her blog for years and they have always eaten raw dairy, and they are not and never have been all raw from what I have read about them either.
oh sorry Holly, my mistake. I just had memories of reading your blog on and off over the last 3 years and reading about you guys eating cooked and raw, maybe I got you confused with someone else.
I saw that article today. It is so easy for the news to point out one family and say - See! It makes you ill, look at this family! But how many success stories are there out there to highlight the many many people who were healed through raw food? Why isn't that in the newspaper? So, this one family was ill and had bad teeth. How about the thousands of ill families living on a SAD diet? Per capita, the SAD community has a lot more malnutrition stories and health issues than our raw community.
And another thing - the article really gave the impression that she knew what she was doing with a raw diet - something I highly doubt. No raw nutrition expert were called in to examine her diet. She might not have been getting proper nutrition, but that is hardly the fault of eating raw foods, and more likely the result of not knowing how to properly feed yourself and your children for optimal nutrition.

The crowd erupts into a roaring ovation for Alyssadyane!
How many Cancer or Heart Disease reversal stories has that paper published? None, I'll wager.
Write to the paper. Heck, I'll write to the paper. Heck, Lets all write to the paper and ask them why they have not published any stories showing the much more common result of vegan/raw, great health.
I agree!! Plus, no matter what diet people take on they should do the research behind it and accept full responsibility of mishaps. You know you are going to detox, accept it.
Also...it's not like the media comes knocking at your door for the story (this only happens in few situations)...
Its so upseting because my parents are really bent on getting me to drink milk now...
I have been going on and off for so long now! But after reading VBs book 12 Steps To Raw, lol I keep spacing on the title, I am so determined and happy to be raw, I want it so bad!
They don't believe me when I say I can get calcium from raw plants... =/ so I was thinking maybe drinking raw milk would hush them up about it but I am concerned it may make me sick...not that I am all mad - I do understand that they are just worried about me.
i eat raw goats cheese all the time and have never gotten sick from it. i've thrown raw eggs in smoothies a couple times just to try it and i didnt get sick from that either. i'm not big on raw animal products but i dont feel bad eating them on occasion.
I have done a 40 day water fast before. So I guess for some people it miight be dangerous but it works for me. I do better on water then juice fasting.
