So my parents made me read this article in a news paper. It was about a family on a raw vegan diet, and the chicks kids had gotten holes in their teeth and were stick thin...and they all craved dairy.
So it looks like raw made them ill.
They ate loads of fruit, veg and seeds and took b12 and d supplements, yet they were sick....
I can't find an expination for my parents, I can't even find one to give to myself...
Wow, I'm so mad about this, great idea about writing in Chris, I am off to do that. Please join me! I really think people need to know about how amazing raw food is, we should be getting this out to as many people as possible.
Those are good questions Chris. I would also like to know the answer as well Holly.
I understand your view point and sharing your story of how your kids got sick is fine, because it seems you want people to be aware of how deficiencies can make kids ill. But on the other hand, I did not get a sense of how the article has validity because it simply shares one families story to a bad reaction to a type of diet. I don't see any purpose to it besides giving veganism a bad name without any type of scientific or nutritional support. Basically, it paints a bad picture of veganim, but does not mention anything about veganism being very healthy if followed properly. At the bottom it states a list of nutrients and vitamins we all need such as Vitamin D, Iron, Calcium and Protien. These are all very possible, if not easier, to consume in a plant based diet and the article does not address that issue at all. Especially the tidbit about Calcium: "Found in dairy products, this is essential for strong bones. It is often lacking in a vegan diet unless taken as supplement." What about spinach, kale and broccoli, and some legumes which are all good sources of calcium? What about how the body finds plant protein to be far superior than animal protein? I guess my point just reinforces Chris', which is this article only paints the negative and why would you support that? I am in no means trying to attack you or make you feel offended, I genuinely am curious of your side.
And one more note about the article, you are quoted saying " I was so brainwashed into thinking dairy products are bad for you.” How do you know they are not bad for you? What sources other than the assumption that your kids put on a little more weight and their teeth were restored led you to believe that?
YES I SAID I HAVE SOME HEAT TREATED HERBS
I AM ALWAYS VERY OPEN ABOUT THIS
I USED TO EAT UNPASTEURISED MISO BUT STOPPED WHEN WE STARTED RAW DAIRY
II JUST DO WHAT WORKS FOR ME - WHCI IS ALMOST ALL RAW
I think the above all use uncooked but processed foods, so not strictly a raw diet.
I believe Holly only used unprocessed raw foods during her raw vegan days, no powders and no cold pressed oils.
But getting advice on raising kids raw from people with no personal experience obviously a bad choice. Then again, there are not so many experienced people to choose from for that kind of advice! It's leading edge stuff.
Man I was going to say the same thing, but I wanted to keep the mood light, but since you brought it up. I have noticed that to many times especially this particular person blog has always appeared to be anti-vegan.
Weston A. Price Foundation. Folks massively anti-vegan who think that all of the scientific evidence showing that animal products are harmful is wrong. In short, fanatics.
Jane i'm sorry i really disagree with you
but whatever...
this whole thing (the way some people are talking here) is a way of being that i cannot relate to
the stuff you have said here is mostly untrue
it is very disappointing because i thought you were my friend
but that's ok!!!
and to be honest i am letting go of the whole thing
lots of love
holly
th article was not at all hyped up
also i did look at lots of information from lots of people
i have nothing against vegans but i am appalled the way a cult has developed with anyone who has a different experience or view vilified - fascist is the word that springs to mind
this is what i object to and want nothing to do with
anyway all the information is on my website www.rawcuisine.co.uk
why is it so difficult for so many people to accept that veganism does not work for everyone?
