So my parents made me read this article in a news paper. It was about a family on a raw vegan diet, and the chicks kids had gotten holes in their teeth and were stick thin...and they all craved dairy.
So it looks like raw made them ill.
They ate loads of fruit, veg and seeds and took b12 and d supplements, yet they were sick....
I can't find an expination for my parents, I can't even find one to give to myself...
Wow, I'm so mad about this, great idea about writing in Chris, I am off to do that. Please join me! I really think people need to know about how amazing raw food is, we should be getting this out to as many people as possible.
I wonder if ancestry has something to do with fruit tolerance? Maybe people who's ancestors hail from the more equatorial regions have bodies that haven't gotten so far away from handling fruit well. I'm northern and eastern european- not huge fruit areas.
I notice that I don't feel the best with bananas, but great with berries and stone fruit. And lots of greens! I also feel ok with grains. I know you're Swedish, buddhababy, and Suvine has such pretty tan skin- I'm guessing she's not so northern, lol! Maybe this is a key?
Well I am confused. The article is about Holly Paige who is well known in raw food circles here in the UK. She used to run Funky Raw with Rob, and she gives raw food classes and demos all over the UK, and she runs an online shop here: http://www.oceanwavevibrations.com/
But she and her kids have never been vegan, I can always remember reading bits of her blog and even emailing her at one stage about asking why they ate dairy.
And she also doesn't advocate a 100% raw vegan diet, they have always eaten cooked food too.
From reading her blog and looking at her shop you will see that she is very much into superfoods, supplements and psychedellics.
It is sad that people never do this fully, never go 100% raw and then blame the raw food when they get ill or feel like crap.
I can't understand why she has spent years promoting raw and she is still promoting raw, when she doesn't believe in it and doesn't know how to do it successfully.
i have to agree with this. if it's your business, for pete's sake, then you should be doing it all the way unless you're very explicit about it, like natalia rose, and if you're getting sick on whatever you're eating, you should look at EVERYTHING you're eating, or not eating, and not just blame raw.
Holly has been into raw for a very long time, it says in the article "They had been raw vegans for three years", this was long before she started her blog.
Raw doesn't mean raw vegan. What makes you think she "doesn't believe in" raw? I don't want to speak for Holly, but I'm pretty sure that she completely believes in raw and eats a mostly raw diet, it's raw vegan that she doesn't believe in.
Hi Zoe!!!
we were vegan between 2001 and 2004 but by the time we spoke we were established in raw vegetarian diet that included raw dairy
i don't advocate any particular kind of diet - i just share what works for us - we have been all raw nearly all the time just not all vegan!
we are doing raw succesfully if you mean eating our food raw and being healthy and happy
we are just not vegan!!!!!!!!
and not trying to be......
i am not really promoting anything
i just like writing about my views and experiences and run an online shop
each to their own!!!!!
i eat just about everything raw - i use few herbs that have been heat treated - that's all
this has been the case for years with a very occasional exception (away from home etc and i mean occasional!!!)
it's all on my website, open and honest!
a few other things (according to your website) you eat that are not raw.
ayahuasca, rooibosch tea, miso and he shou wu
My question to you Holly is why... Why participate in this article? OK I get it you are not Pro-Vegan and do not pretend to be. Cool, That's fine, you certainly don't need my approval. But articles like these do as much to scare people away from Raw as they do Raw Vegan.
How many people who are searching for a health answer saw your article and will now avoid anything like it. They will avoid not only Raw Vegan but also Raw Omnivore as well. You do seem to believe in what you are eating, you do have 2 raw websites after all. Why feed the Beast?
The anti-self-cure media just eats this stuff up because stories of 'freaks' who 'buck the trend' and fail make all the SADies feel better and sell a lot of papers. Why do you help them and help water down the Raw message? It's not like your kids had Cancer or something but there are many kids with cancer who could do with a change of diet. What about them? Let 'em have Chemo! I guess huh?
celery is hugely important in my diet,as i dont add salt to anything..when i do have the occasional piece of sunbread or raw chocolate which contains salt,i reallllly feel it quite negatively....
great advice Loren :)
Great points RG you're right, one size dosent fit all. For me it was purely a health thing to start, but then as you so well described it, the layers started peeling back. It really took me by surprise, was very unexpected, which is why I now just...
Hi Nicole,
How old is your son? As far as diet, I would be giving him plenty of fruit, and plenty of simple salads, including lots of tomatoes and perhaps some celery as both are high in sodium.
But as I understand it, salt cravings are usually ...
Hi Loren. Thanks for that info. I often hear Naturopaths comment on how children with autism are often lacking in sodium and reccomend increasing their salt intake. I have a son on the autism spectrum and he craves salt. He drinks green smoothies ...
