HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy) Bioidentical/Synthetic/Nothing?

In February of 2007 I had a full hysterectomy because that seemed to be my only alternative. (Duh, I can't help but wonder about how raw foods would have affected my choices) From that moment until now, I've been taking HRT (Premarin). This doesn't really fit in with my new raw lifestyle or my ethical beliefs.

I'm prepared to make a change, I fully expect to have some side effects (like instant menopause) or withdrawal symptoms. But, I was wondering if there was anyone out there who may have taken this same path as I'm about to take? Is there someone who could tell me what they've already discovered? What not to do? Are there any RAW women out there without ovaries who can give me some advice? Can any of you give me input on what you do or don't take? Side effects? Libido? Advantages? On a fully raw diet, perhaps I can avoid taking anything? What, in a raw lifestyle, can I do to remain healthy, but also be comfortable? Are there any natural alternatives?

The difference between Bioidentical and Synthetic?
"Bioidentical hormones are manufactured in the lab to have the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your own body.
By contrast, synthetic hormones are intentionally different.
Drug companies can’t patent a bioidentical structure, so they invent synthetic hormones that are patentable (Premarin, Prempro and Provera being the most widely used examples)."

Thanks for the instant reply, RawZi, but I'm not sure I'm ready to try that just yet. I was hoping for something more herbal or in "pill form".

RawZi,
Wonderful! Thanks so much for the links! I agree with you that Premarin can't be considered synthetic. I thought the article I quoted was a bit strange. It seems that most of the women using it don't care what they put into their body or where it comes from.

Aside from the health safety standpoint, I've been helping a local horse rescue who often comes across PMU foals. I feel I shouldn't be encouraging drug companies to make more.

Raw fish sperm? Sounds like sorority hazing taking a nasty turn.
Isn't fish sperm just white roe?
Check out Dr. Theresa Dale N.D.'s site www.wellnesscenter.net.
She does homeopathic HRT alternatives and formulates according to your saliva sample. She bases her formulations on the Chinese 24-hour body clock and the formulas balance the entire endocrine system, according to your needs. She claims that women with total hysterectomies have great results and these formulas have NO associated risks, unlike even bio-identical HRT.
Also, build and nourish those adrenals! They are what will be making your hormones, now that your ovaries are gone. Maca and royal jelly are good.

Thanks everyone for your helpful ideas. Today I got up enough nerve to tell my doctor's office that I was quitting the premarin. The nurse practitioner was very nice about it. She sounded encouraging and willing to work with me. Whew! I thought I was going to get the doom and gloom speech. Instead, she suggested that if I worried about bone density, we can always do a screening for it now and again occasionally to make sure I'm not losing bone density. My feeling is that if I'm eating a balanced raw diet I should be fine. I like the less intrusive testing versus the "take this pill" just in case. She said that if I had problems with hot flashes, I could always slowly wean off by halving the dose or try again in the fall. In the meantime I'll check out the links and hopefully come up with a game plan.

You can always drink cold sage tea to take the edge off of the hot flashes. I've suggested this to my customers and several have told me it helped:)

Hi Nicole, We don't need any salt at all, and in fact it's always toxic to the body. Salt is a rock, and no matter how small we smash it, it is an inorganic mineral which our bodies cannot really use. Organic sodium is needed by ever single cell ...
