A few days ago I watched the "The Secret Life of Plants", a movie made in the late 70's that puts forward the thesis that plants have could actually be sentinent beings. It is an amazing film.
"The Secret Life of Plants includes remarkable information about plants as lie detectors and plants as ecological sentinels; it describes their ability to adapt to human wishes, their response to music, their curative powers, and their ability to communicate with man. "
Open Question: What implication does this have for us raw foodies?
My own thoughts are that I need to be incredibly grateful towards any plant/ living food that I consume, really. Approaching mealtime with the correct mental/spiritual preperation seems to be a must now, because if what I am reading here is true - there is direct physical evidence that a person's state can affect the plants that they are in contact with. I am also coming across some further evidence on the "law of intention" while reading in the links above.
Please let me say thank you for taking the time to read this. I love you all.
Hear, here, I think there is someone other than me really thinking up a storm, so to speak. Can you dig it, I can without affecting my so called karman (original word from Sanskrit). That would be the ticket if you follow the words literally in the Holy Bible and your constitution. "Law of Intention" is great terminology in this instance. The plants have what we need and in return we replenish the cycle of life with our continued existence I hope. What I mean is that the consciousness you receive is from what you do everyday, your religion. If you think of plants leading us to that higher consciousness, it is so. The reason humankind is stumbling with this is because they don't live in the truth. They make foolish decisions all the time. They eat an omnivorous diet. Cooking is the reason they keep on this path.

It's been some time since I started this thread. I have since come to the conclusion that perhaps it is a little different eating plants than eating animals. We have a partnership with them. Among other things, we produce carbon dioxide that they need, they produce oxygen that we need.

Hey Eton,
Similar to what Erin was saying earlier - I belive in this earth experience everything is alive and conscious - though simply in different degrees. Even rocks and minerals are states of consciousness, though be it perhaps a more dense kind with a low vibration etc. So in a nutshell, yes, plants are conscious beings, though at a different level to humans/animals. Even so, intent at any level serves to communicate between all conscious levels and so the cactus can listen to the request of not growing spikes and so it shall be (in a previous post). Likewise, if you become quiet enough and be still within your soul, you can also hear the 'intent' or conscious flow of plant life - so it can go both ways etc. As for eating plants, I'd say the following: It seems to me that one of the purposes for life on this plane is for the expansion of consciousness - for it to grow through the experience of polarity (good and bad) - any sentient being that chooses to incarnate here knows this and that by having such an experience brings about a greater understanding of 'all that is' and takes their essence one step closer to the source. In this way I belive plant life is kind of happy to be 'eaten' as in doing so, in a greater sense, it serves to become part of human flesh - aiding the plants experience by becoming part of the human experience. Granted, in an ideal, 'higher' plane/experience this wouldn't happen, though at the present time, everyone seems to be in a space where their bodies are machine like, requiring fuel - and that's just the way it is... I hope some of that made sense...haha
I don't know what the quality of life of a rock is though I would and could not suspect better or worse. Not implying anything. I don't know what you believe Alex, just to say that. Complicated or not I believe we all have the same consciousness. Aware of it or not I could not know. Though any joy we must be aware.
I do not believe a plant could be any more happy to be eaten by me than I could be to be eaten by a tiger. Though I do not know how accepting they are. All I can tell is they don't run away and are pretty quiet natured to me.

Thanks for your words Wayne. I think it would be cool being a rock :-) I also believe we are all of the same consciousness, in essence, we are all one etc. wouldn't like to think better or worse of different forms as I feel I would only be judging myself. I think we are on the same page? I also don't believe a plant could be any more happy to be eaten by us than we would be if eaten by a tiger, because I feel at the end of the day neither of us would really mind...if we are all of the same consciousness...and are all one...what do you think?
It might be better if we started abstract understanding The Queue (Star Trek) when he exclaimed, "we have all played the scarecrow!." Where is a/the gift then? I think that the plants are playing there part perfectly along with the tiger (Save The Tiger) . What about us?. What are we here for?

He's still my hero, but I heard the guy was tyrannical and cruel to his family and co-workers. Marlon Brando talked about what a douchebag he was in his book; still though, comic genius.
OK, I guess to me getting rid of anger and envy and fear in ones self before being able to externalize it on a corporate scale just seems common sense as opposed to religious. Is that really religious? Or is it just that he is a Yogi addressing th...
Rome was AWESOME, another fantastic HBO series. True Blood is also pretty cool, but I read the books so it's bittersweet for me. Did anyone else catch Carnivale? That was really well done as well.
