Give it to me Raw

Some people use the grains for one batch, some for two. I decided to try a second batch and noticed that it tasted and looked the same as the first (and I felt great after taking it). I decided to try it a third time. Same results. I'm on my fourth or fifth batch now. Each time, I drain and use fresh water. Is there any reason to throw the grain out and start with fresh? Why would it go bad if you keep replacing the water? The grains are still slowly sprouting and look healthy . . . no sign of a problem. The fifth batch looks, tastes and acts the same inside me as the first . . . The grains have a solid immune system . . .

What do you think? Is this one or two batch thing just superstition?

Wow you really get the bang for the buck!! Have you tried a fifth, sixth, seventh . . . ?

LOL. I guess I didn't know the exact mechanism of how it worked (that the bacteria was feeding off the starch). Haven't got that far yet, this is my first time . . .

what is rejuvalec? i have heard the word but im not sure what it does for the body.

I usually do about four batches. I throw it out when it smells icky-sweet. It's more likely to spoil like that if the wheat is old or not the best quality. I've noticed that it seems to happen more with soft wheat vs hard wheat. Does anyone use spelt or kamut? I've been thinking of trying those.

I'm using rye. Could be the reason it hasn't seemed to go bad . . .

Try adding fresh mint and fresh squeezed lime if you like the flavours ...deelish and very refreshing

Good idea. Will try. I'm growing several different mints. I've got some lemon thyme too I'm thinking I'll try . . .

So which are you saying is better? Seems like it might go bad faster?

I guess in my mind fermenting and culturing were the same thing (in the case of probiotics), the difference in when the rejuvelac goes "bad" being the kind of bacteria which take over at a certain temp and time period, but my understanding is that they are all bacteria feeding off the sugars just the same . . . to my knowledge nobody intentionally drinks the pukey stuff . . .

Aha. And you say that people intentionally drink that? (vs. the bacteria)

I'm still somewhat new to rejuvelac if you can't tell :)

hey guys, is rejuvilac bad for people with gluten intolerances, cause of the gluten in wheat and other grains?
