Give it to me Raw

I'm sure this gets asked a lot over and over and over. But im rather new to the raw lifestyle. I've been doing my reasearch, and its seems that green smoothies pop up everywhere. And after making one of them...i love it. The only down fall is...i don't have any super foods. I'm going to buy Cacao nibs, Pure synergy for spirulina and all that green stuff. oh and goji berries. But I don't know what else to add...i hear some people add hemp seeds (which im purchasing). But i don't know wheather to choose..Maca, Camu, or Yacon? I heard that if you have to much Maca it does...does this from what wikipedia says...

However, maca does contain glucosinolates, which can cause goitres when high consumption is combined with a diet low in iodine. Though this is common in other foods with high levels of glucosinolate, it is uncertain if maca consumption can cause or worsen a goitre.

I got a little scared away from buying Maca b/c of this....any ideas?....

Hi! I like to think of green smoothies and superfood smoothies as two separate categories.

I personally prefer the 'savory' over the sweet... like: greens, algae, avo, herbs, cuke, tomato, sea salt, kelp and chlorella or other algae. In a sweet green smoothie, I like to add afa or spirulina, vit-c, and sometimes flax (unless I want to go totally fat-free for a meal ;)

For superfood smoothies I use: berries, cacao, AFA algae, coconut oil (just b/c I dig-it ;) , goji, bee pollen (only if fresh ;) , cayenne, flax, vit-c, hemp (protein or whole seeds) or whole seed chia gel (soak 1 Tbl in a little water over night). Then to this I add anything else I might have: mesquite, shizandra powder, medicinal mushroom products/powder, fo ti, etc...

Most days I have green juice for b-fast, then onto my Superfood smoothie, then more g-juice and then a savory smoothie or salad. Oh God I am Blessed! (sorry, just reread what all I wrote ;) Well, since I am tell you my whole deal I will go on to say that I eat MSM and B-12 in the morning... prob. can't give too much info to a newbie ;) I suggest watching you-tubes of green smoothies and superfoods smoothies and everything else you might need to know ;)

I wouldn't worry about the price either... we live in a world of abundance. If you need the healing properties of superfoods, then the Universe will provide as soon as you believe in your heart that you are worthy of having your needs met (this is my experience, I don't know you... just sharing how it works for me ;) Not everyone needs all the stuff I need (and my needs will change over time)... I decided that after many years of struggle with lettuce and oranges and consistent cooked relapses I would humble myself into taking suggestions. I started on AFA algae (1 Tbl 3x's/day) and cacao, as well as taking other suggestions: prayer, meditation, exercise, yoga, tons of greens (blended or juiced), superfoods, colonics have been key (and enemas in between), getting lots of raw support on the net (and locally... I started a support group... create the world you wish to see ;) tons more greens. And most important: faith. Faith that if I need smthg it will come easily... if I can't afford it or don't know how to get it, and it is smthg that seems right for me in my heart, then I just keep doing the spiritual practices and eating raw and cleaning my colon and believing that I am being taken care of... and *poof* there it is and usually better than I expected. For example: I didn't think that I could afford colonics (it is best to do a series at first) but I could afford one... so I got it and the therapist set me up with a trade situation... it was HER suggestion! I couldn't afford a lot of superfoods but I could afford a little each day and I live near a co-op that has cacao, maca, all of it in the bulk herb section ;) Then Great Spirit gave me foraging knowledge (that is a whole nother amazing story of synchonicity) and therefore as much as 50% of my food is FREE, over 50% of the year! The raw trip is wild. This time last year I had just recently moved to my area from living at the Tree of Life for a year... I was broke, but kept faith and kept raw and Great Spirit (or what ever you want to call it ;) gave me a job as the salad prep person at a crappy veggie cafe, so I got a free raw meal (not organic, but we start with what we have with were we are at ;) and I would buy superfoods and a dinner salad with my tip money from the cafe ;) Then I learned foraging in the spring, my work enviro keeps changing and getting better, reflecting my perseverance and inner cleanliness... now I have plenty of money... today I had a basically free-foraged green juice, then a superfood smoothie and right now I'm gonna go drop $50. bucks on some blue pigment extract of AFA cuz money is just energy and my brain needs lots of healing ;)

BTW... wild edible greens are my top fave superfood and they are FREE... go outside and get some! To learn green foraging, ask me :)

I think CamuCamu (loads of Vitamin C) is amazing, although I don't buy it anymore because it is so expensive. I would put them in my smoothies and take a couple drops under my tongue before rock climbing. They are great for a boost of energy. Maca is good too, love both of them

I eat maca on faith, on accounta all the positive things I read. i use a lot of powders, i study em, look for the best prices, i take em around with me. i don't have a lot of faith in trucked in long distances fruits & vegetables, so it balances out, if you catch my drift. i like powders, but everything changes, i go with it my feelings. i sure eat less on soupafoodz & raw org fruits/vegetables.

Maca resonates with me. I can feel a difference when I take it. I like to put it into my smoothies. I have been wondering how much is appropriate. I've been putting 1 tsp. in a smoothie or water...

Do you know how to do muscle testing? You could see if it's good for you by muscle testing.

I've been muscle tested for many years by lots of chiropractors, always felt bogus, and they never (over two dozen chiros) much helped me. Why'd I go? I was a lot younger than I am now, if you catch my drift.

I've read a lot of good things about maca. I take it on faith, simply put. Every day, in my smoodies.

I've never heard of glucosinolates before now, or if I have, I don't remember such a scientific-sounding word. I take maca daily and all those superfoods you mentioned as well. I'm reading David Wolfe's Superfoods book and, at the moment, anyway, I'm sold on it. Everything is only "at the moment", right?

I think they are the way to go. Do and see. Best Wishes - keep learning.

I made this back in February and yes it's all raw. It's dehydrated sprouted crackers from Rainbow, with cashew cheese, tomatoes, pesto, avocado and arugula.

I would ask him if he is interested in making a dietary change and if he shows interest then that's great! If not, be a shining example of health and hopefully one day he will come around. He has to do it when he is ready otherwise he will feel it...

Emotional, and also its physical chemical addiction... sugar and fat and such can be like drugs, and abused like them.
