Start our own conspiracy to phase out big business farming corruption

I had a great idea the other day! Lets start our own conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!
Instead of everyone giving donations to Green and Ecco groups to fight Monsanto and pay for political counter action, give all that money to one organization that pays farmers to NOT buy Monsanto seeds. We instead pay them to grow what we want them to grow. If we gave each farmer $100,000 a year simply as an incentive, they could still grow whatever it is they are growing, do business, sell there produce and make what they would make as an Organic former. The 100 Gs would be a payoff to pull them out of the system and away from corporate and government intervention. With the added subsidized income the price of Organic could also be dropped so more people could afford it and choose organic over conventional. Instead of fighting these huge companies with hug money, we simply took their customers away from them. What would happen if no one bought from them any more, they simply had no customers? How much power do they have in a world that has no need for them? What if we carried that concept across the board. It is too difficult, too expensive and too futile to battle the big money and power of government and corporate giants. Isn't it easier to just do business without them?
If 200,000 people paid $500 a year, thats $41.66 a month, then that could pay 1000 farmers across the US $100.000.00per yr. to do business as an Organic produce producer. What do you think?

I actually think that's a good idea. I wonder how much you'd have to pay them to make up for the profit they make by growing Monsanto's GM plants? There would be more work involved for the farmers.
I can see Monstanto going around sabotaging peoples farms by planting their GM seeds then suing the farmers for growing them without their consent, though.

Well I have heard they id you do Organic right you get just as much yield as you would from Monsanto seed. We would need to put in place some of the money to sue Monsanto for contamination. You can also file with the government a pre-notice of intent that your farm is organic and you will not tolerate any contamination of foreign seed. That put you one step ahead and states you have no interest in using GMO or any other seeds.

Who would be responsible for organizing, collecting, and distributing these funds? That's what I wonder. On paper, it sounds like a great idea, but I'm far too cynical to think that this could make some kind of a difference. And would 1,000 farmers be enough?

interesting idea. i've been thinking a bunch about monsanto today as I watch "the future of food" on netflix...

1-2% of the US population are farmers - i.e. 3-7 million, depending how you do the numbers. of course, not all of those are responsible for buying seed, maybe only 1 out of 100?

the contamination is the tricky part. read the wikipedia entry on percy schmeiser- it summarizes how the case was brought to court- and the court was only able to rule on upholding patent rights.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto_Canada_Inc._v._Schmeiser

it does seem like a legal issue to me: patent law was extended to protect living things (seeds) and, unlike mechanical, electronic, or software inventions, there is no reasonable way to prevent cross pollination or contamination.

i also read here http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/05/monsanto200805?...
that monsanto owns/distributes something like 90% of the crop seed sold in the US. and if you've ever read the omnivore's dillemma, corn is in everything. people have little choice, on the whole, to not buy monsanto product because it is so widely distributed. unless they are going to prepare their own food....

OK so we start with 100 farmers, then 1000, then 10,000…
Each farmer could agree to be part of the program they would pay back into the program 5 or 10% of income generated from the sales of their produce. They still get the 1000Gs a year as members. The whole thing could work like a nationwide co-op. Members pay a yearly fee, like say $500 and then get a discount on any item you purchase that is subsidized by the program. Oh do I hear a name in there? NSSOF the National Subsidized Sustainable Organics Foundation. Celeb Events, concerts, Rallies est. could raise money and public awareness to build the program. Feeding more money into the program to recruit more members both farmers and public supporters. How about if it even has its own Organic certification standards. Why not bypass the whole US Certified Organic BS. That way we could exclude the Wal-Mart’s and the likes from the program. I can see it now; produce on the shelves’ with NSSOF stickers on them. Fuck the system we just create our own produce.

Excellent idea! Let's get this party started ;-)

We need to do something. Farming is based on welfare so unless we can pay them more than the goverment, we'll be sol.

Dan,
Have you actually spoken to any farmers about this plan? How would one herd even 100 farmers for this program? Otherwise it's a great start to getting Monsanto out of our environment and to build awareness of their impact not only on the earth but in our food supply.

Big business today is not true capitalism. It is a form of corporate fascism. Major corporations buy politicians and write the laws through their lobbyists. They receive billions in government subsidies and hand-outs, but 68 percent of corporations pay no federal income tax.

The only ones practicing the true capitalism that you love are small businesses, but they are slowly being devoured by huge multinational corporations.

OK Suvine I hear you. I think a good business man has the right and should be able to do business, build wealth and become successful. This is what I myself am working on. Thats fine as long as it is ethical and moral. BUT a company like Monsanto who literally kills small struggling farms with an agenda to control all people by controlling the food supply is a socialist monarchy in the making. You obviously are not informed of what these giants like Monsanto are doing to us. They poisoning the air, the food, the earth not just for those who want their product but also for all those who do not. It's like second hand smoke. You can smoke I don't care. If you want cancer and die from it that is your choice. But if we are on a bus together and you light up and force me to breathe your killing smoke your are in fact telling me what to do, what to breath, what to suffer from.
As for choice you have to realize you may think you have choice but the reality is, big business has political power to put their poison in food and not label it, even call it organic. So you go the store and buy what is labeled Organic which may in fact contain non organic or even GMO stuff in it. Did you know in the US it is illegal to put a labal that state in has GMO ingredients in it. Big Business lobbied that law into effect. That is not free choice that is corrosion, conspiracy, and downright laying.
Giant Agro will not go away, in fact most of it is not even for food but for products like oils, plastics, fabric, ethanol… We do need to vote with our money and a co-op is what I propose. Like I said, why waste time fighting them when we could use our resources to create what we do want and do our business that way we want. I would like to see small organic farmers make a really good living. If that becomes a high income job then more Organic form there will be.
Suvine I suggest you watch some videos and get up to speed on what is really happening. The wool is over your eyes a bit and the truth will set you free. Check out http://www.sprword.com/mustwatch.html

Fear Mongering? Have you ever heard of Morgellon's Disease?
It is a disease which gives the sensation of bugs crawling beneath your skin. It produces lesions and fibrous material that grows out of the lesions. It's so painful that people have commited suicide rather than to feel that sensation all day.
A study of the fibers shows that they contain DNA from both a fungus and a bacterium which are used in the commercial preparation of genetically modified foods and non-food crops such as cotton.
There is an informative article which contains more articles and references.
Health Freedom USA
If anything, I don't think people are afraid enough of Monsanto and Genetically Modified "food".

Watch all three nights online. Some great info was given, but seemed like it was all about getting people to buy more and more products. All I know is that they made a TON of money.
