Give it to me Raw

Hi everyone : )

So Ive been mostly vegan for most of my life and then in January of this year, while at the Optimum Health Institute, I discovered the power of a raw food diet. At the time, I was super sick and exhausted from Adrenal Failure and Hypothyroidism, after many years of stress... But after 1 week on wheatgrass, I felt better than I'd felt in 3 years!

So my question is -- can raw food heal Hypothyroidism?

Because there are many studies that show that RAW broccoli, kale, cabbage, spinach, yams, and a few other cruciferous veggies actually SUPPRESS the thyroid gland... Soy and all oils also do, except for extra virgin olive oil, and coconut oil -- which actually stimulates the gland..

I'm currently treating my Hypothyroidism with acupuncture, yoga and a prescribed medication called Armour from my Integrative Physician.. Im not into taking pills, but at least the Armour that I'm taking is the natural alternative (it's pretty much dried thyroid gland from pigs), as most people take a synthetic version.

Id like to get off the medication totally and Id like to know if there are other natural ways to heal myself...

I'd love to hear your thoughts, input....

Thanx!

Jade

I'm not sure about the specifics on raw diets helping your thyroid, but I do know that my hypothyroidism nearly disappeared when I switched from a SAD, sedentary lifestyle to a vegetarian active one...

Jade,
You will hear of many testimonials about the raw food diet and thyroid disorders. I have heard countless people who have said they have been able to decrease or eliminate their synthroid because of raw. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's one year ago, was in thyroid storm last summer, and my thyroid stabilized, on it's own by fall. One year later, I am still with a normal thyroid. L-carnitine is a thyroid stimulating supplement you can look into. Good luck to you! dm

Thanks Lulu, I totally appreciate the input! That is my goal as well and it's great to hear others have attained it.. Yes, the raw, healthy diet and yoga and commitment to peace of mind have totally been transforming my health.. Thank God the body is so forgiving!

I have been curious about this too...but my situation is WAY more extreme. When I was 14 (20 years ago) they diagnosed my with hypothyroidism and destroyed my thyroid with radioactive iodide...I therefore have a non-functioning thyroid...I have taken synthroid every day since then. I also wonder if it will effect how rapidly I can detox and get rid of toxins since it's a synthetic substance, but I cannot go without it...I have no way of producing this hormone myself, no matter how healthy I eat. Actually, after a few days of the raw diet, I was still really tired...I was sitting on the edge of my bed and I had a vision of a future spontaneous healing when my body is healthier, perhaps it can bring the thyroid back to life...at least, I do believe it's possible, I just don't know how. I also will not take a substitute that comes from an animal...as a vegan, I can't see taking thyroid hormone of pig to better my life...one factory farming video is enough to see how horrible their lives and deaths are. I also tried replacing the synthetics with homeopathic versions when I was younger before I went vegan and they didn't work...likely because I have no thyroid capacity what-so-ever, rather than just a compromised thyroid. Am I asking a question? I don't know...maybe just wondering if anyone else is without a thyroid and how it's going.

I wonder how clay can replace thyroid hormone...if I don't take mine it will cause an imbalance that lands me in the mental institution...the science is this...the thyroid is regulated by the pituitary gland...it sends a message to the thyroid to stimulate thyroid hormone production...if there is no thyroid, the pituitary just sends more and more of this hormone information and there you have a mental imbalance that acts like what they choose to label bipolar mania...it is obvious to me why the mental institutions are full of people who have "crossed the line"...basically, acid does the same thing...it opens the pituitary gland, which coincidentally is the key to enlightenment (the pituitary opening, not acid) and accessing information from the "other side of the veil"...the people stuck in mental institutions are processing information even they cannot understand because of brain hormonal imbalance--when you do this in a healthy gradual way you get the process of enlightenment...when you do this in an accidentally hazardess way such as poor diet causing imbalance, you get pandamonium because the brain isn't evolved enough to compute what it is "seeing"...having been on the other side gives one a view that even psychiatry cannot comprehend...and of course, they won't listen to you either...it's either, "hey, take our psychotropic drugs for which we have no understanding of why they work, or you can just sit here...we have all the time in the world to wait you out so you may as well take the drugs." I made the connection (with my own mental capacities) within hours of being there, that I had forgotten to take my synthroid for more than a week...and they didn't believe there was any connection and would not give it to me for a few days even though it is prescribed to me to take everyday...they called my endocrinologist who told them I could operate just fine without it for at least a month--he was an idiot too, unfortunately. Ugh...the system is so screwy...where to begin...yeah, ok...heal yourself and you heal the world...I totally get it now.
Thanks for the input~

Im sorry youve gone thru so much "screwiness" Crystal! : ( It sounds like you have pulled through though, and are taking charge of your health and your life these days... Keep taking good care of yourself, girl!

Oh wow, Crystal...I never thought of the mental issues the thyroid can cause...But now that I think of it, there were was a lot of depression, and a lot of manic 3am room cleanings/paintings/hair cuttings...Ha. Kind of like bipolar with high highs and low lows...

Wow guys! Thanks for all your thoughts & sharing! Nice to know other people have / are experiencing the same kind of things.. Since January, Ive been taking Armour and a bunch of Adrenal Neurotransmitter support supplements, and I must say I feel like myself again now and feel that my situation has stabilized.. Thank God. My doctor decreased my dosage of Armour from 60mg to 45mg about 2 months ago, and my ultimate goal is to be able to stop taking all of that stuff altogether.. By the end of the year.

Ive been doing about 80% raw food, lots of yoga (especially postures and kriyas for the thyroid and adrenals), and acupuncture and I feel like Im healing... I also made a decision to stop working 16 hour days, juggling 3 careers; and to avoid stress and drama.. I decided not to allow anyone to steal my peace of mind anymore... For the most part, Ive been successful and my health has rebounded, but it's a conscious decision every day. This has been just as important as the Armour and whatever else.

Many say that Stress is the leading cause of every and any illness, and I agree...

Getting sick became a blessing in disguise for me -- a wake up call -- towards redefining whats important for me, and how much I was going to allow for others to get me off my path.. A wake up call to come back to my true values and take care of myself...

If we dont, there are consequences....

Anyway, thanks all -- I look forward to more sharing on this topic...

Hi Lulu, yes I just started taking Kundalini and I love it. I balance it out with Bikram which I also LOVE! I feel like they're both totally healing and strengthening me so much, in so many ways.. So great...

Well Im happy you also felt that the illness (or rather, the "health opportunity") was a divine message to slow down. I mean, who says we have to be working so much and for what? I decided to enjoy my life now, every moment and get back to breathing and being and loving and cherishing...

ps - sorry about your finger, I hope it healed!!!

Hi Jade,
Can you tell me which yoga postures are good for thyroid and adrenals?
I think mine need a boost ;)
So happy to hear of your healing ;)))

besides yoga postures, be sure and get plenty of iodide...that is thyroid "food." I can look back now and see perfectly clearly how my diet and childhood trauma caused this issue...if I only knew then, nyuck nyuck.

I think it's so hilarious that the doctors and psychiatrists aren't making this significant connection...when I was first trying to understand my "illness" I was doing a lot of "google research" and finding all these stories of other people who'd had similar experiences (just google thyroid psychosis and you'll see what I mean)...such as a lady who'd had her thyroid removed and was told to go home and stabalize before they would test her for the dose she needed to start taking of synthroid....so she goes home and loses her God forsaken mind and the Doctors aren't even understanding what is going on...then I read some other stuff where some psychiatrists are having luck treating certain mental disorders with synthroid, "but we don't know why it works!" Duh....the thyroid is out of balance! I want to scream at these people to make the dang connection.

I had no trouble getting pregnant once I learned my ovulation cycle with my daughter, but pregnancy was horrible for me--really bad all day and night "morning sickness" and extreme exhaustion...my son was a surprise!
And they like to do a blood test once a year to make sure you are taking the correct does, but mine has not changed in over 15 years, even through two pregnancies.

The side effects of this issue I have noticed over the years, are a slow metabolism, poor circulation (I'm always cold when other people are fine...and my fingers and toes will get like icecubes...people always freak out and I tell them I am a lizard)...and plenty of depression.
Here's what's already improved since I started raw just a couple weeks ago...I can sleep through the night for the first time ever in my life! I get a full night of rest and am ready to rock all day with just 5-8 hours...before I tossed and turned all night and would sleep in the day. I'm not sweating like a pig yet freezing...my nose is not stuffy like the sniffles...I have energy like never before...I have optimistic visions of the future...there's a lot more, but these are all major for me...and I believe I will fully heal by staying on this diet...thanks for everyone's input and interest!
Hugs~

I was at a red light. Same thing also happened to me when Rudy Guiliani crossed in front of my car. Hitting the gas did occur to me for a second or two.

Sure, too much fat is bad for the liver. But fat isn't per se bad for the liver, is it? Not only in 811 but also other people say to limit the fat but maybe raw plant fat helps to flush out some stuff out of the liver? When you've been on a fat fr...

Think more systematically. Instead of thinking of it meaning a problem like 'weak liver' it may mean, time to fast. Think of it as more like youre body is undergoing a load of eliminating stuff all at once. (and in this case perhaps, too fast(this...
