Give it to me Raw

Looking for TOL Feedback and/or Other Raw Chef Opportunities

Has anyone been to the Tree Of Life Rejuvenation Centre and taken any of the workshops or the training in the kitchen?
I haven't been able to find a lot of feed back on this place yet, but Im very intrigued.

Im currently doing a stage in a traditionally french kitchen.I have quite a bit of experience in the kitchen working with cooked food and a bit with raw as well. After Im through I'd like to get some more experience in preparing gourmet raw food, seeing it's really the only kind of food I want to eat and feed to people.
I would like to either get some training by attending a school, taking on an internship, or working in a restaurant. Any feed back, ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I spent the entire month of June 06 at the Tree as a SEVA. I did maintenance stuff, generally helped around, and ended up in the sprout house for the last week or so.

From what I could tell and from talking with interns, the kitchen experience is very intense. The food was absolutely amazing, though a bit rich for everyday eating. It is, afterall, a chef school, so a lot of fancy meal are prepared. That said, there were always plenty of greens and lighter choices also -it's just hard to stay with green when it all looks so good. And it was! Some of the best raw food I've ever had.

I've heard both positive and not so enthusiastic comments from people's experience. Some found it too intense for their taste while others thought it was the best food school they had attended. Sorry I cannot be more specific -you'd get a better review from an actual chef intern.

I personally am very glad for my time there. I would say if you get a chance to go, you should definitively go.

There is another raw chef school that had a great reputation... I cannot recall the name right now. A woman chef and founder... angel something... sorry. If I find it I'll come back and post.

Found it: Cherie Soria at the Living Light Culinary Arts Institute

The other one is Alissa Cohen. I've got 2 friends who have gotten their raw food chef certificate from her and are very please with it.

You probably knew all this already... but just in case you didn't.

Best of luck. :-)

Hi, I just returned from TOL but I did the spiritual fast with Gabriel and 30 other folks. Based on my experience there, I would HIGHLY recommend it for every single aspect offered. The food rocked. I have been to Hippocrates and the food at TOL is amazing. They have the 7-day Conscious Eating courses Everyone there is awesome. Take care, Pauline :)

Thanks so much Amiee!

Im definitely leaning in the direction of Tree. I like the feedback I've received and from what they say on their website it's sounds like a program I would love!
I know all about the rustic, shared room housing. I just came from a school in cuisine with the same set up, so no sweat!
Patagonia sounds gorgeous! What an amazing location!

So you were born in Paris!? Very cool! You should definitely make your way over here at some point, I'm really enjoying my time here.
I'm actually from Toronto, Canada. Im here in France working/learning about cuisine and inadvertently French language and culture.
I haven't made it too Tourettes Sur Loup, but yes I too would love to visit!

THANKS again, and thank you for the heads up about Raw Spirit Fest!

Bisous,
Leah

still looking for a raw food restaurant?
for sure the US has many of it
New York has the more gourmet, fits for you better maybe...pure food and wine is one
can't tell about flavor, the look is easier to imitate but just looking at a picture...how to categorize a raw food restaurant really?
if they are flowing naturally while preparing food it could be just like trying too appreciate art or philosophy...the one appreciating can get as much its sensibility aloud...
but if you are avid to create..which I think you are the best for...find the place where they want you to do it...most restaurant want you to stick to a recipe and look...
I had enough of that, that is why I do what I like and a like what I do..
in variety is the tasty of life
:-)
not gourmet at the tree just in case...is not a restaurant
if you just want to learn bout raw food benefits bla bla go for
if they aloud you...and I have done that...it will be challenge to do gourmet raw food with the food combining chart...no salt, no oil, no spices, no mix fruits and veggies, no critics with sweet, no nothing haha
no flavor like you are used to...I think you would not survive that girl!! :-)
not much fun while eating that plain...yes is pretty healthy...and boring too...

I've decided to hold out on the raw cooking schools for now.
I've been doing a lot of experimenting by myself these days and I learn a lot this way.
the only raw kitchen 'tool' I have to work with is a hand blender so I have to get pretty creative which is good fun!
I planing on staying in France for awhile longer but then who knows, New York sounds good!!
Pure Food and wine, here I come! If not to work to eat!
I still really want to go to TOL but as a guest, for a cleanse or something.
Thank you for all your support and lovely comments!!
