Strawberries and blackberries can help reduce blood pressure, help raise their HDL to eliminate most of the LDL, along with inhibiting platelet function...some other foods that should help raise HDL would be garlic, almonds, apples, bananas, carrots, grapefruit, olive oil, walnuts, and oats...along with the obvious and unsaid power of plenty of green veggies.
Pretty much a strong focus on anything rich in the omegas.
Why is below 160 supposed to be unhealthy? People with cholesterol below 160 are at even lower risk for heart disease, and many researchers say the lower the better,as long as your body is able to produce sufficient cholesterol (that is, that there is no underlying defect or problem causing the low cholesterol). Many cultures with low heart disease have very low cholesterol their whole lives, it doesn't increase "naturally"with age.
Right, cholesterol only increases with age if your toxic habits are catching up to you--but some doctors will claim that's normal (no surprise to anyone on this website, I'm sure, that they say that).
Thanks, I understand that you don't have that study on hand. It is a complicated issue, of course. And higher might be better for one person and not for another...
Sadly, I do not know if hing helps cholesterol. My cholesterol has always been low, as far as I know (and I was alarmed when it once was 150--because it was a big jump!). But different herbs and spices seem to have powerful effects on certain people.
I was vegetarian since I was a very young kid. When I got older, I ate a cooked vegan diet, but my body didn't do well on it. I was obese (almost morbidly so), and getting less healthy with each day. I was SHOCKED when a doctor told me that my cholesterol was high--how can that be when I don't eat any animal products, I'm a vegan and eat a lot of veggies?! It didn't make any sense at all!!
That's when I learned that my body has always had a problem with insulin resistence (which caused PCOS and irregular menstural cycles since I was thirteen years old). The insulin resistence can cause elevated bad cholesterol, even if you aren't consuming any animal products.
Anyway, I went raw (gradually) and my health has changed. While I was still transitioning, I was drawn to young Thai coconuts. I ordered them by the case and felt physical excitement with every single coconut I consumed. Within one month of consuming those baby coconuts (at least one per day), my cholesterol went from unhealthy to extremely healthy!! The holistic doctor I see said she wasn't surprised, because coconut (including coconut oil) can be very helpful with cholesterol problems.
Yes, the Thai coconuts *do* get horrible treatment when they come into this country. However, if your diet is otherwise clean, they can still promote health. I ate at least one coconut a day for many months and experienced tremendous healing on them. Now, I no longer crave them.
I was strictly organic other than those coconuts, so maybe that's why my body could handle them and still extract the goodness that was there.
Anyway, as a medicine I think they are better than the pharma. drugs that do all kinds of negative things in our bodies and only mask problems, rather than heal them.
I, for one, will always recommend young Thai coconuts for lowering cholesterol, since it worked so well for me. ;-)
Pretty interesting. It was hard to tell what he was for and against though, haha. I would hope to be in as good condition as him when I'm 91..... or better :j
I guess if you think of it as eating raw as what God intended, and makes us the purest version physically of what were meant to be, then maybe it is a way to get closer to God and clear away the distracting mess of sickness, and the hormone and em...
Here is Part 4 to the Stanley Bass interview. Many people have asked me what I think about this interview, I will be posting a video reply in my next episode after this one.
The sun (or bright snow, bright sky, light bulbs, etc.) totally make me sneeze. It seems to be genetic- my dad does it too. It's called "Photic Sneeze Reflex":
