Give it to me Raw

Lets get to know each other!! BTW I stole this survey off the raw group on Cafemom, but what the heck it will work for us too!!...

Occupation: Personal Trainer

Why you went raw: To help launch myself into a new level of veganism. To get the processsed yucky foods out of my house and body. To lose some body fat.

Favorite UN cook book: Well I only have two... Ani's Raw Kitchen- Ani Phyo & The Raw Transformation- Rudell

Favorite raw vegan site(s): Give it to me Raw!!! & RawFoodTalk.com
Biggest obstacle with being raw: Watching my husband and son eat pizza and tortellini.

What percentage raw vegan are you?: 80%- I still drink rice milk and I use as raw and I can find it but still not raw... peanut butter, both in my smoothies.

Favorite smoothie: Frozen Strawberries, Frozen Blueberries, either a banana or a Clementine (I trade stuff out!), rice milk, organic vanilla extract, & peanut butter

Biggest benefit of going raw?: Besides less trash in my house!? I feel better about myself and my body. I haven't seen a lot of changes yet but I am a lot more aware of my body and what is going on with it. Another one is my anxiety seems to have decreased a lot. It might be a mind thing, but I will take it!

Favorite fruit: berries & granny smith apples, oh oh and tomatoes

Favorite veggie: zucchini, Avocados are definitely #1 in one of these categories Im not sure if it is a fruit or veggie though.

Is your spouse raw? No, he is an ever transitioning ovo-lacto to vegan.

Do you think being raw is expensive?: Well I am at the store more often it seems like, but fresh food is way cheaper then Morning Star Farms Products. I think until i really bulk up on some of the more pricey staples it is about even.

How much do you spend on groceries a week? It is hard to say because my husband and son are not raw. So on just raw foods probably under $100.

Have you ever had a raw pregnancy? No, but next time!

Easiest thing to feed a toddler that's raw?:
Smoothies, Corn, Beans, Apples, Berries, Bananas, and tons of candy.. wait candy isn't raw! Oops! ;)

Occupation: Artist - I sculpt porcelain and paint, I am also the Office Administrator for a Land Prep company

Why you went raw: Desperation, I was smoking almost 2 packs of cigarettes a day, and drinking vodka from morning to night, my weight was up to 178 pounds, I was sick, in pain and my marriage was falling apart.

Favorite UN cook book: Alissa Cohen's Living on Live Foods

Favorite raw vegan site(s): Give it to me Raw!!! RawFoodTalk.com and Raw Freedom Community! Love them all!

Biggest obstacle with being raw: salmon ... I love wild fresh caught salmon!

What percentage raw vegan are you?: 100%, that's not to say that I haven't had an occasional piece of fish! (in 9 months I think I've had fish 2 or 3 times)

Favorite smoothie: I cannot have smoothies...=( ... allergic to most fruit... horrible when you live in the land of exotic fruit!!

Biggest benefit of going raw?: Regaining my health, lost over 51 pounds so far, stopped drinking vodka and quit smoking cigarettes .... and... my marriage is going strong and beautiful.... I have my life back! rawk on!

Favorite fruit:
I do love watermelon and mango.... sigh... I do splurge once in a while - but I pay dearly for it... but sometimes... I just gotta do it!

Favorite veggie: Avocados, cucumbers, spinach!! yummm!!!

Is your spouse raw? No - but he's about 85% raw (always has been)

Do you think being raw is expensive?: Not for the most part. Some of the gourmet dishes can get expensive - but most recipes make A LOT of food - so it lasts for several meals.

How much do you spend on groceries a week? wow... ummm.... maybe $50 or so? Unless I'm making something special... then it might go as high as $60 or $70.

Have you ever had a raw pregnancy? Nope....

Easiest thing to feed a toddler that's raw?: My grandkids loove raw ice cream!

Not to encourage eating salmon, but in my country people eat raw salmon (cold smoked)...

Hi Marte-

Why wouldn't you NOT encourage eating raw Salmon?

If I could, I would eat it everyday for GOOD health.

Hi StarFire!

I'm with Marte and eating traditionally cured or raw Salmon. Why not? Could there be a healthier food on the planet?

Also, the reason you are probably "allergic to most fruit" is because you are, what I call a HIGH LEVEL SUGAR ADDICT having been an alcoholic.

You will probably find that you are suffering from Candidiasis (Yeast Infection) and the yeast growing in your body live on the sugar - and we crave what we "allergic" to: alcohol, refined sugar, corn syrup, flour, JUNK

keep up the good work!

Hi Peytonamoura-

Occupation: Financial Representative for Insurance/Investment Clients

Why you went raw: After reading Nature's First Law in 1998, I became convinced that "Cooked Food is Poison!", now I am only about 50% raw, sorry, I like to eat rice.

Favorite UN cook book: We Want to Live; Expanded and Revised In 2005: The Primal Diet
By Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Favorite raw vegan site(s):
http://www.westonaprice.org/

Biggest obstacle with being raw: Our favorite milk man moved out of Santa Cruz county. We used to make weekly trips to the dairy to buy our milk and cream which we still get at the store but it is more than twice the price.

What percentage raw vegan are you?:
0%-I am not trying to be vegan as I feel it is an unhealthy eating practice. Also, I do not consume soy products.

Favorite smoothie: Usually with frozen bananas, raw milk/cream, raw honey and any fresh berries

Biggest benefit of going raw?: Become leaner and stronger, consume less, save time and money, have that nice, natural, raw high, "my raw buzz", maybe that is the raw honey.

Favorite fruit: Avocados, blueberries, Goji Berries, any berries really, stone fruits, tropical fruits, papaya, and my absolute favorite is DURIAN - the delicious stinky fruit!, Tomatoes, watermelon, etc etc

Favorite veggie: I like them all

Is your spouse raw? We eat the same.

Do you think being raw is expensive?
: I think just eating is expensive. If we ate junk, certainly it would be cheaper, 29 cents for mac and cheese, but I chose not to. My children are never sick and we enjoy eating well, so the expense of eating a bowl of guacamole with 10 avocados is worth it.

How much do you spend on groceries a week?~$250 or $1,000 per month

Have you ever had a raw pregnancy? Yes, but my wife had to eat eggs for the protein and French bread and raw butter for the fat and comfort.

Easiest thing to feed a toddler that's raw?: Breast milk.

Occupation: N/A

Why you went raw: To see if any of my physical/mental/emotional problems would improve. And because I was getting tired of a very un-varied vegan diet of white rice and canned beans.

Favorite UN cook book: I haven't read enough to have found a favourite yet.

Favorite raw vegan site(s): This one's a pretty good one. :)

Biggest obstacle with being raw: Maintaining my weight.

What percentage raw vegan are you?: 100% vegan. Probably close to 100% raw (unintentional ingestion of cooked or pasteurized foods keeps me from 100%).

Favorite smoothie: Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and apples.

Biggest benefit of going raw?: Not having to worry about how my body will react to certain foods.

Favorite fruit: Pomegranates.

Favorite veggie: Raw sweet potatoes (the orange ones that some people call "yams").

Is your spouse raw?: N/A

Do you think being raw is expensive?: That depends on how you define "expensive". If you get nice and healthy and don't need a lot of drugs, then it'll save you money. If, however, you get nice and healthy and live to 100, you'll have to shell out money on groceries for a couple more decades, so yes, it is more expensive. :)

How much do you spend on groceries a week?: No idea. I live with a SAD eater, so I'm not sure how the grocery bill breaks down.

Have you ever had a raw pregnancy?: No.

Easiest thing to feed a toddler that's raw?: Fruit (that would be my guess, anyway).

Why you went raw: Well, I was vegan for a few years but when I went to Burning Man for the first time, I realised I was going to have to eat meat to get enough sustenance. (We didn't have a cooler or lots of fresh veggies, so I was kind of in a tight spot.) Anyway, then I spent a lot of time in the States eating terrible/delicious things like New York pizza & chocolate & peanut butter shakes, & my eating continued to slip from there. Recently my boyfriend & I read "Do You!" by Russell Simmons & decided to go back to veganism. My friend suggested going raw, & we've taken it from there...

Favorite UN cook book: None at the moment! Though I have Rawvolution by Matt Amsden on my Amazon wishlist!

Favorite raw vegan site(s): Still, none yet! Though this one looks pretty great ;D

Biggest obstacle with being raw: At the moment, it's just getting enough variety & trying to work out how much we need to eat. My boyfriend is pretty happy to just eat fruit & vegetables plain, but I need a bit more excitement, so.

What percentage raw vegan are you?: Maybe 70%.

Favorite smoothie: Chocolate protein powder (need to find a vegan variety! Suggestions?), mixed berries, soy ice cream, soy milk & ground linseeds.

Biggest benefit of going raw?: I've seriously only been doing it about three or four days, but I am already experiencing increased energy, clearer skin (YESSSS!) & I've been reeeeeally happy... much more so than usual, & I am normally pretty chipper!

Favorite fruit: Grapefruit, berries, passionfruit...

Favorite veggie: Spinach!

Is your spouse raw? Yes! Thank god.

Do you think being raw is expensive?: Fruit & veggies in Australia are quite expensive -- the country is in drought so the prices are sky-high. So, yes, it is quite expensive, but I think if you plan it so you only buy what you're actually eat, it's not too bad.

How much do you spend on groceries a week? Can't say at this point.

Have you ever had a raw pregnancy? Arrghhh! No ;D

Easiest thing to feed a toddler that's raw?: A finger? Hee hee.
