Give it to me Raw

The raw vegan village www.rawveganvillage.com sounds nice. But homes starting at $300,000 are so far out of my budget that I just sit here and laugh. Even in regular sustainable villages in upstate NY, townhomes start at 100,000.

I cannot participate in sustainable eco-villages because it's financially impossible. What are your thoughts on having raw vegan yurt villages instead? Do any exist?

Meanwhile, I'm begging my sustainable villages to allow yurt housing. They won't.

There's a small group of yurts near where I live. I want to move into a yurt in one year (possibly without electricity). How will I make this happen - do i buy a used yurt? As a raw foodist, does it make sense to live in a yurt? Am I closer to the earth? Is it more eco friendly? Is it safe to live alone in a yurt? I don't have a car - is that okay? Should I try to make this happen - is it worth the effort?

I completely agree with you. I was thinking the other day what a great idea a yurt village would be. Paying $300,000 for a home is just out of the question for many of us. Even if I could, I'm not sure that I would pay that kind of money. Although their plans do look very nice, I think that I really prefer to live more simply :-)

greetings!

they can totally exist!

the thing is that to buy raw land requires more down that most people have on hand so if coming at it from a collective, it can be done.

also, it has to be in an area that allows yurts or can "get away" with it without permits (if permits are unavailalbe) etc as some counties are VERY STRICT about this kind of living in fact strongly prohibit it with expensive fines etc. (such as here in the pnw).

to be 'native' american is not allowed these days in some areas as big government allows shacks, run down trailers etc but to live in a land loving tent is unthinkable to them ~

this is kali yuga > maya and in the illusion, there is duality (seperation from that which really is) for those who choose to stay in maya.

as we have chose differently, this is where we get to really practice creating our reality with these kinds of life related issues. we get to jump through the hoops with a smile on our face :)

infinite bliss in all our awareness in this journey we call life :)))

Finnegan Kelly - $300,000 may be inexpensive for some folks, but I only make $25,000 a year. I can only afford rent, food, and insurance - not even a car. I also have college educational expenses. Sorry, owning a home that expensive is so far out of my price range it's not even funny. Yurt living, in my opinion, is closer to my ideals about environmental conservation and living simply.

Living in a raw yurt village is my dream!!! I didn't even know they offered electricity. I am still in college (one semester left!) but I would totally love to buy a yurt and have everyone grow different veggies and fruit trees and herbs and trade. When I was younger I wanted to be a native american. I use to make my parent's take me to powwows and I was all about eating berries in the grass...I don't think that part of me has ever left! I know what you mean -- the cost of living is so expensive these days that most people don't have enough for anything but the necessities. Good luck.

she's right, i'm from southern california and the one-story, 3 bedroom, 70s track homes on my street go for close to a million when the market is good.

affordable? no. which is why i'm glad my parents snatched ours up when it was still $30,000!! otherwise there is no way in hell we could have ended up there nowadays.....i don't think anyone in california is making more money than in other states--people who already have a lot are just deciding to show up.

in my opinion, that housing community seems a little too.....froofy? contrived? commercial? yuppie?....for my tastes. i'd rather live much much more simply.

i'm down with the yurt!

they gossip about which teams are going to trade or sign star players. Most of it is bullshit. They just create rumors to sell papers / get hits. Still I eat it up.

Hi agree with Erin, everything she suggested is very similiar to wha ti have found. I am also seeing an accupuncturist and realize that we actually need cooked foods in our diet to support the spleen. Healing with whole foods is a great start..

I've been doing some "research" on ear candling, and have found three different reports: 1) it's great, feels great, and really helps to clear out the sinuses/lymphs 2) it feels great, but that's just the warmth and it doesn't actually do anything...
