Give it to me Raw

Im curious as to how others have gone with the transition to raw food and its effect on their skin.
I have moderate acne around my jaw line and neck area it did improve when i first went raw but seems to pop up( Punt Intented) still even when i am strictly 100% raw. if anyone has had any experiences that can enlighten me i would be so thankful...

I think its going to be easier for me to give up fruit...we'll see how this goes. I'm still wondering where chocolate and things like agave fall into the mix. Is it fruit or the sugar in the fruit that is the culprit?

Anything that contains foods that are high on the glycemic index.... such as many fruits, rice, WHEAT, potatoes, rice, grains, dairy... these are all culprits.... even though you don't think of these things as high glycemic foods they are. If you are eating a high raw diet these things don't really concern you.... I don't know about cacao in particular, or unsweetened chocolate.. but if you are eating any chocolate with sugar it it, it will affect you. As far as agave, it is supposed to be low on the glycemic index. It is still a sugar, so if you mix fats and oils with this it very well may break your face out. It is all very tricky! Let me know what you think...
Oh, and Emma: 80/10 /10 stands for 80% fruits and veggies, 10% fat, 10% protein. The book explains it quite well as far as the ratios and how this is calculated. It is amazing to me how LITTLE olive oil or nuts or whatever is allowed.... and yes you DO have to have some fats and oils and proteins.. just not as much as you think... the book points out how most raw foodies eat a way too high fat diet.. WAY..... it's really not as healthy as it sounds when you look at the fat in a typical raw diet...
as for me, my main interest in all of this was for my skin and energy levels... I've been pleased... I'm still new to it , as well.

Thanks for clarifying the 80/10/10 thing, not sure where I picked that up wrong. I'll check it out and see how things go. Thanks again x

Well i'm not doing well with the no fat thing, it's too tricky! Have gorged on coconut oil plus olive oil and some nuts yesterday. I'm going to buy the 80/10/10 and check it out properly...

I hope to check back here and document my progress as I explore the ways my diet affects my skin. Thanks to all!

In terms of the digestive system, do you recommend colonics, probiotics, etc.? Any insights into how to build up a healthy digestive system?
Thanks Pete!!

I went raw for the same reason too, and at first my skin cleared up and then it got bad again. I have been raw for 5 months now, was vegan before, and have in general been a pretty healthy eater before going raw. i love being a raw foodie. i feel great, i dont fret about what i eat and its fun. ultimately i think that there are certain foods that effect your digestion which in turns effects your skin. i also think of course if you eat better you are going to look better. however, i finally conceded and went on accutane because i could not take my skin problem anymore. i think stress, hormones, and family history have a lot to do with one's skin condition. i am not suggesting that you do what i did, however i understand your frustration and think that it probably is your body cleansing amongst other things. dairy is def. bad and sugars can cause candida which again creats poor digestion which results in skin problems. try a colonic or a liver gall bladder cleanse! good luck!

I've been transitioning to raw for about two months now. I have days of 100% raw and green smoothies, and then I have snadwiches , or other cooked foods when I'm out and about and starving. The only constant (I really need to start a food diary) has been that I cut out dairy products and meats altogether, although I'm completely addicted to chocolate.
I've had constant acne since I was 13 and I'm 18 now. Yesterday, my face was completely clear with only scars and no bumps neither! Today, after having had ribs yesterday (!) and a snadwich with coleslaw and cheese(!!!) my skin has already broken out again. My skin still doesn't look healthy but having one day of not a single blemish is such a big thing for me. I went out and bought tons of fresh stuff today to combat cravings this week! I report back when I've been 100% raw foe a whole week.

I had the same problem when I first started raw. Your body is full of toxins from years of abuse, and so it will take awhile before they all get washed out. I've been raw for 2 years now, and have been pimple free for over a year. Just give it time.

Glad your body was able to do a little cleansing. Fruit will definitely help clean house.

I don't remember saying it works for everyone. I have said that it works for me, and for the last 2.5 years it has worked for me. If that makes me new to this.......ok sure. But I have friends who have been doing it longer (8 - 25 years). How long does it take to not be new at this? I am very excited for me and all of my friends who continue to get results. It's an amazing experience being able to share this with others.

Ah yes, the greens. What do you consider high greens? Personally I don't think I could fit any more greens in most days. Two large heads of lettuce, or a large tub (1lb) of spinach and a bunch of celery seems like high greens to me for one day. I could probably fit more in if I juiced but then I wouldn't be getting all that needed fiber. Besides there is no juicing in nature so I am not a beleiver in juicing unless you need to because of a severe bowel disorder and can't handle the ruffage.

Just out of curiosity how long did you use 80/10/10 as a guide before you decided it didn't work for you?

Thanks for sharing your experience and opinions.

Lemon water helps me too.

I had bad acne. I then became vegan (100%) and it got noticeably better, but still there. Then several years later I started eating mostly sprouts and greens, everything raw. i did this for several months. My acne didn't change from cooked vegan time. Then i ate natural hygeine (all organic juicy fresh raw fruit and some organic heirloom lettuce and organic raw celery) for one month. I had to stop. My acne stayed the same, but I felt too weak and my bones were getting weak.

Hi agree with Erin, everything she suggested is very similiar to wha ti have found. I am also seeing an accupuncturist and realize that we actually need cooked foods in our diet to support the spleen. Healing with whole foods is a great start..

I've been doing some "research" on ear candling, and have found three different reports: 1) it's great, feels great, and really helps to clear out the sinuses/lymphs 2) it feels great, but that's just the warmth and it doesn't actually do anything...
