I am looking for some new moves to incorporate into my training. I love weight training and am open to any new/interesting stuff...I started bikram yoga a few weeks ago and Iove it. But I just wanted to know what everyone else likes to do to stay fit and why.
I used to be a varsity rower and we had a killer workout that I still do at least once a week. It starts off as murder, then gets easier and your legs will be like tree trunks.
Aerobic weights: 4 to 5 sets of 80 fairly quick squats. Each set of 80 squats is broken up into 4 sections, with no rest in between - you keep squatting but change what your arms and upper body are doing. Use a long weighted bar (you want a weight that you can maintain for the whole time but doesn't slow you down but is also not too easy - might need to experiment with this one). The first 20 reprs of each set are reverse curls, the next 20 are upright rows (pull elbows up around your ears), the next 20 are overhead presses and the last 20 are deep squats (go lower than 90 degrees between you knees and calves).
Is this clear? I don't know, it's a quick workout that is a good addition to a jog or whatever. It hurts the most 2 days after, not 1 day so keep that in mind.
Good luck, Cheers and I am also interested in hearing whatever else anyone has on avoiding boredom.
i'm pretty relaxed when it comes to working out, i really love yoga (all kinds, bikram is awesome), walking, hiking, rebounding etc. i used to run and to pilates and lift weights and all kinds of cardio stuff, but i've gotten better results from eating raw and just doing what feels good :)

Love walking...it's one of the good things about being in the NYC area. I used to bike a lot until when I lived in Japan but i gave away my bike to a friend there. I am thinking about scouting some trails here in NY and getting myself reacquainted with the wheels.
BIKING! It makes me feel free and happy. I live in upstate NY and I'm surrounded by beautiful nature, lakes, trails, and wildlife. Biking and hiking let me connect with nature, release emotions. Every time i get on a bike, I smile for the whole hour that I bike (most days of the week). It's so invigorating, powerful, relaxing.

Hey Winona,
trails? How far north are you? I know that there are some trails in westchester and putnam counties. I would totally love to bike down by the Hudson river in the city. I think that trail might actually extend north to Westchester so that is definitely going on my to-do list. But I hear you. I used to bike for hours and it always felt like an adventure.
Hi Gil,
I live in the Fingerlakes area. There are beautiful trails out here. Just visit any of the parks - all of them have trails for hiking, many are good for biking.
Hi Gil
Horse back riding is the best!!! I also use my rebounder every day ( I bought it very cheaply on ebay) and every morning I do the Tibetan Rites. Whatever you do, you have to enjoy it ( as with everything !!). lucy x
Besides yoga, the usual cardio and weight training, I love doing the stairs at the beach (230 stairs, up and down as many times as you can). Coming up I can take them 2 at a time, or backwards, or sideways, or with a kick back every time I step up. I've seen people hop up, but I'm not that good--not yet! One guy wears a weighted vest, which I will definitely try. The variety lets me hit different muscles. I also love climbing a local sand dune. Because the sand is unstable, it's an even tougher workout, always followed by a treat at a local Raw restaurant!
