Give it to me Raw

I've been experimenting with various superfoods. After 3 plus years raw I thought I should see what the fuss is all about.
So I love the algaes, and a couple of other things which have made me feel great. But then there's Maca...now I always thought that should be The One for me because I used to have a hormone inbalance which has been healing since I went raw, and I know maca's supposed to be great for that. So I tried it, I put it in some orange juice and just chugged it down, I retched straight away, but I managed to keep it down. Then after a couple of hours of what felt like sea sickness I threw up violently everywhere. This was hours ago and I still feel pretty rotten.
Has anyone else had this kind of reaction with maca? I had 2 tablespoons of organic maca whch I got off Shazzie's website.

Hmm, two tablespoons seem like a lot all in one go for a first time user. I'd cut down your intake to about a teaspoon in the morning and then increase your intake over time. That should help.
I thought that, and yes that was maybe too much, but now when I think back the only time I have ever been ill from raw food was when I had a raw chocolate bar with maca in it and the same thing happened. Even the smell makes me want to retch.
I react quite badly to maca as well - not as you do, but in that it unbalances my brain!

Throwing up is quite a strong suggestion that you may be allergic to it - if you persist it could be worth having some anti-hist. around, but do be aware that it may be a more violent reaction than that could deal with :-(
Does maca grows naturally where you live?
dont think so ah : )
something from a different continent, from a different climate, with a strange chemical composition that your body does not recognize....without considering the vibration stage of this delicate root generated after being process and manipulated for many people's energies....got the idea?

some people is more susceptible to different influences, please dont think maca is bad for you.
some people should just not have it
I think is irresponsible selling aphrodisiacs like this to the main stream....anyway
this will help...
you could enjoy the benefits from maca is you take it slow but expose the powder to sun light in you back yard first...that will help...and also use water that has been exposed to sun light....that will help to harmonize after the after trauma of not being in their natural stage and different energetic global location...
always coming back to the roots help...
hope you can see some light in these advices
once you get use to maca you might get addictive to it... : ) and remember that..
you can get addictive...maca is an aphrodisiac...must be use with delicate touch and with moderation...

peace
david wolfe stated that only 1 teaspoon should be used in a smoothie or else it will destroy the taste of the smoothie,

No, I haven't had the reaction but I probably would if I had 2 TBSP. It's such a potent substance and even a tiny bit of it tastes sort of gross to me personally.
hmm. i love maca it makes me feel like an ancient mayan warrior. just dont use soo much. i usually sprinkle it into things like smoothies and chocolate or salad dressing, but a tablespoon? just takes bits and thats better than trying to crank it all down and developing a repulsion of it. its a beautiful food and should be appreciate for all of it characteristics, not just "get it down there" for nutrition.
Yeah too much but don't give up on it. It tasted like sweet burnt chalk to me at first. It just doesn't go best with citrus. Better with apples, pears, cacao, butters, bars, etc.
go slow at first. I now have 1 tablespoon.. feel amazing..go run and train then come back pumped!! use it before workout only..or I end up "wired" all night!!
I always use maca when making chocolate, especially icing on cakes. I also try to use it in smoothies but like you say the taste is strong and I sometimes just want my juice and smoothie straight up ;)

But the only reaction I have experienced from maca is the aphrodisiac kind haha :)
maca and orange juice? not my favorite combination. i sometimes will just eat tiny amounts with fingertips. otherwise coconut water/meat smoothies work great with maca. it's definitely a taste to acquire.
Thanks for al the great advice. I'm not going anywhere near the stuff again. I know to listen to my body The packet from DTYW said use in any amount! Took that literally didn't i!

I love apples too! I made a "killer-Raw-Apple-Pie" last week, with different kind of apples in it. It was so good I can't stop thinking about it. The panda-bear in the pic is soooo cute! Did you take the picture yourself?
