Give it to me Raw

I've been experimenting with various superfoods. After 3 plus years raw I thought I should see what the fuss is all about.
So I love the algaes, and a couple of other things which have made me feel great. But then there's Maca...now I always thought that should be The One for me because I used to have a hormone inbalance which has been healing since I went raw, and I know maca's supposed to be great for that. So I tried it, I put it in some orange juice and just chugged it down, I retched straight away, but I managed to keep it down. Then after a couple of hours of what felt like sea sickness I threw up violently everywhere. This was hours ago and I still feel pretty rotten.
Has anyone else had this kind of reaction with maca? I had 2 tablespoons of organic maca whch I got off Shazzie's website.

Awesome combo ideas. Coconut meat, banana, almond milk, vanilla bean smoothie with a little maca.

You can use it in smoothies not much and you won't taste it too I've noticed.

Mesquite is also a tricky taste, if you ever pick that up down the road.
I've been using about 1 teaspoon of maca daily for about 3 weeks now and have had to cut down.

I felt too wired and suffice to say it does what it says on the tin!
wow buddhababy you have almost convinced me to give it another try your recipe sounds gorgeous. Maybe it would taste like Horlicks, think that is an English thing, you might know what I mean.

You know what I would like is the actual vegetable. They eat it like we eat potatoes in Peru. Anyone know if you can grow it easily or get hold of the actual fresh vegetable?
That's an awfully good question. I've never seen it.
hmmmm. . . definitely no reaction like this to maca- i use it almost daily. . . it's perfect in EVERYTHING. . . but we all have our own tastebuds, reactions and chemistry with things. .. so maybe maca isn't a good fit for you. OR maybe there was something else that triggered that violent reaction?
xx
Yeah I think you started with a huge dosage. I have started out small, couple teaspoons and then increase.
I've never had a negative reaction and I've taken up to a tablespoon at a time in my smoothies, usually half a tablespoon. Can't imagine taking it with orange juice.
Here's my favorite recipe:
1 Thai young coconut with coconut water, a cup of almond milk, 2 T. raw cacao, 1/2 T. maca, 1/4 t. cinnamon, 2 or 3 T. agave nectar, a cup of cold water or more and half a dozen ice cubes. It has the thicknes and taste reminicent of a chocolate malt to me when less water is used.
So, buddhababy, I've heard it can be an aphrodisiac, are you saying that smile on your face is from the affects of maca? You must be living proof. I'll have to up my dosage, we're talking medicinal use now!! But at 5 T. a blender-full, where do you buy it to afford it!?!
I just tried your smoothie.....yummy! Thanks for the recipe idea!!!
I began taking Maca this week. I slowly worked up to two teaspoons and followed the recommendations from this post to mix with almond milk and a banana. What changes should I see by taking this supplement/food? It was suggested to me to take this because it will "make me happy."
well to be honest I wanted to increase my sex drive and help balance the PMT I sometimes have. It isn't a PMT pain or bad temper, I just get so confused and absent minded, and make tons of stupid mistakes and drive into pillars and what not. And I am really sick of it!!

Someone told me that the brand of maca I bought is not good, and in their opinion it is rancid, they know what good quality maca is like and they said the brand I used is definately not it.
Well I don't have anything to compare it with as it is the only brand I have tried. I am going to try maca from a different source and see if I projectile vomit it up!! I'll keep y'all posted ;)
thanks Lulu, that is worth knowing. I may get some of theirs if it turns out my reaction was caused by the low quality of my UK brand maca.

Hi agree with Erin, everything she suggested is very similiar to wha ti have found. I am also seeing an accupuncturist and realize that we actually need cooked foods in our diet to support the spleen. Healing with whole foods is a great start..

I've been doing some "research" on ear candling, and have found three different reports: 1) it's great, feels great, and really helps to clear out the sinuses/lymphs 2) it feels great, but that's just the warmth and it doesn't actually do anything...
