I have a Vita Prep 3 which is the commercial 3 hp version with variable speeds which I love, but it's much more expensive than the Turbo 4500 you're looking at. I tried the vita mix on your link and it wouldn't handle the tough thick things like my batter for avocado/flax seed tortillas.
A raw friend of mine has a K tec/ Blendtec which he loves and after seeing it I agree. It's 3 hp with amazing electronic speed control and other sensible features. For just a few bucks more you can have a much better blender. Here's an excellent source in the US: http://tinyurl.com/3b95f4
It's funny that you say Debbie that the Vita-Mixes don't work in the UK, because I *just* had a long conversation on the phone only a few hours ago with one of the sales managers for Vita-Mix.
Her and her team had just spent a day this past week with a gentleman from the UK who is a vegan chef in the UK. He was in the US on business, and had stopped by the Vita-Mix headquarters for a tour of the facility. They even took him out to dinner at a vegan restaurant.
Apparently he has a Vita-Mix in his house in the UK, and he just purchased one for his vacation home as well.
Lee, I would suggest that you call Vita-Mix directly and talk to one of their sales representatives. They may be able to give you specific answers to your questions. I'm sorry but I can't answer anything about the plugs and voltage, but perhaps Vita-Mix has a UK model?

Debbie,
When you say $1200 I assume you mean US dollars, is that correct? Ouch!
The Vita Prep 3 - 120 volt, 50/60Hz, model costs $489 over here.
What is the voltage and Hertz (Hz) of the utility electric power in the UK?

Thanks for the education Debbie, makes me grateful for the abundance in my life as well as the simplicity.
Sorry, that electrical info will be on the manufacturer's label of most appliances, usually attached on the bottom or back. Standard US appliances operate at 120 volts, 60Hz. Vitamix 120 volt blenders will work on both 50 or 60Hz power systems. The Vita Prep 3 is available in a 220 volt version
I have a £100 blender at the mo and everything turns into a paste/froth... I just want something that will turn everything into juice so I can transfer it into a bottle and drink while out of the house...

didn't have time to look at the ones you're looking at but i recommend getting the 'newest' version which has a jar made of BPA-free plastic. BPA is bad news when leeching into liquids. i got the new one, no BPA. sorry, don't know the name of the 'new' one but if you go to there website it should be easy to find. then check out most asked questions and it'll say in one of the answers - "BPA free."
:) have fun with you vitamix! it's sooo awesome and easy to clean!
xo
It's not available in Canada, either. We can get the 5000, but the basic price is $150 higher (despite our currency being worth slightly more at the moment). For that reason alone, I refuse to buy from them.
