Give it to me Raw

I just had my first weekend of the year traveling for work. I have several more weekends coming up that I'll be traveling for either work or pleasure. The problem is that I completely fell off the Raw food diet. I'm only about 50-89% raw and that's fine, but I fell off of it 100% and I didn't like how I felt.

I had lots of water and fruits but I didn't have smoothies and it seems that without those filling me up, I fell completely into the Falafel.

Any tricks or tips on how you stay raw on the road and in hotels?

Hi
I just spent a weekend travelling in Sofia, Bulgaria and while I did fall a little off the wagon (some beer, and some vegan cooked desert, and some world renowned yogurt with honey) I think I managed ok. I think forsaking the ideas of perfect nutrition and blended food for that weekend is helpful, plus a commitment to get back on track MOnday morning.

So, I definitely had to get up earlier than my travel mates, go find a grocery store/market/stall somewhere and stock up on snackable veggies - whole cucumbers, carrots and cherry tomatoes, - pus a few nuts and some dried fruit, then some regular fruit. That way, you have bought the food, it's on your person, so that when mealtime comes (at the conference or restuarant or whatever work involves) you cannot let the food that you have already purchased go to waste by eating the cooked fare available. It's a bit of a guilt trip, bit of a planning thing and a bit of acknowledgement that it's ok not to be perfect that weekend.

Does that sound helpful, and I would love to hear what everyone else thinks as travelling is a huge barrier for me as well.

I'm a touring musician so I can relate. There's a book called "Healthy Highways" by Nikki and David Goldbeck. Its a state by state listing of co-ops, natural grocery stores, raw resteraunts and alot of other good things. I wouldn't travel without it!

My friend and fellow GI2MRer just blogged about raw travel and I found it very helpful this past weekend when we were on the road.

I recently spent a week on Cayman Island... I brought goji berries, agave, some products that i use from www.radicalhealth.com, activated almonds, flax crackers, dulse, and a handheld blending tool. I hit the grocery store after we ckd in and stocked up on fresh fruit, cherry tomatoes, and a some greens. I always ask for a refrigerator in the room and I can't think of a time when I wasn't accommodated. I felt and ate great... didn't put anything in my mouth that my body didn't need or want... and I have to say that i think I even cleansed a little bit with having some of the limitations, but It was all good!!!!! Also, when we dinned out in the evening I satiated myself before we went out so I could snack on some veggies or fresh salad without feeling hungry.

Well I don't know where you're staying...but usually there are fruit trees around town where I've been. And instead of stopping at restaurants, just make your way over to the supermarket and buy your meal there...sometimes I'll just buy a couple avocados and eat those for lunch or anything you can think of. You can get really creative. I'd like to tell you how creative you can get, but I also don't know what tools you have availabe, or where you'll be staying. Good luck!
