I thought this was a joke when I first read it but nope!
I guess raw is officially hip if pepsi are using it to brand their product.
Hmmmm.. check out all these delicious raw ingredients.. corn syrup ... plain caramel colouring.. coffee .. tantaric acid .. cane sugar ..
oh, yummy!
Pepsi launch new drink made from 'all natural' ingredients
It may not be as healthy as a freshly squeezed juice, but Pepsi claim their new drink is made from all natural ingredients.
Pepsi Raw, which will initially only be launched in the UK, is the first drink the multi-national cola brand has added to its range in more than ten years.
Pepsi claims the new drink is made from natural ingredients and contains no artificial preservatives, colours, flavourings or sweeteners and that by replacing corn syrup with cane sugar, it has managed to reduce the calorie content of a 300ml bottle from around 120 calories to around 90 calories.
The drink apple extract, plain caramel colouring, coffee leaf, tantaric acid from grapes, gum arabic from acacia trees, cane sugar and sparkling water. It is paler in colour and less fizzy than other cola brands.
The company hopes that the introduction of Pepsi Raw will compete for a greater share of the cola market and help knock rival Coca-Cola off its soft drinks perch, Pepsi has added a new drink to its range for the first time in more than ten years.
The company hopes that the introduction of Pepsi Raw will compete for a greater share of the cola market from the leader Coca-Cola and at the same time it will capitalise on the growing consumer demand for more natural products.
The UK cola market is worth £6 billion a year and is dominated by the two companies that have been rivals for more than 100 years.
Pepsi marketing director, Bruno Gruwez, said: “We are really proud that the UK is leading the way with the launch of Pepsi Raw, which is the most significant innovation from Pepsi UK in the last 15 years.”
Initially, Pepsi Raw will only be available in selected bars and clubs in seven cities — London, Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool, although a wider roll-out is expected later in the year.

I sorry but for me pesi is equated with death no matter how "natural" their product becomes. Lol It's really funny to think that Pesi is going natural. I guess if I drank pop I wouldn't have a problem drinking Pesi "Raw" but I think I will pass on this one.

I couldn't agree more Kara. "Natural" is a word most food manufactures tend to abuse anyway..I'm not sure how natural something chemically engineered in a lab can be. I think its funny that Pepsi choose to create a new product with raw in the title.
Pepsi can go _____ (insert appropriate verb) themselves and they can kiss my ____(insert appropriate verb) and then they can jump off a cliff and land on a pile of broken glass next to a lemon juice factory!
Ahh, now THAT's fizzy refreshment!
BTW anyone remember Pepsi Crystal? My guess is that they are going repackage this as either Pepsi Breatharian or Pepsi Wildcrafted.
I think I'll stick with my green smoothie. I may, however, begin looking at other people's soda's and start giving their drink the "oh gross!" look they give mine... I'm really not that preachy, but that could be fun :-)
I'm probably the only one who is going to say this but someone's gotta...
While the people in these forums may not be drinking this product I do think it's a step in the right direction for the population who would continue to drink regular Pepsi because there is currently no good cola alternative. I don't believe the product will be raw in the sense that it's uncooked but they probably picked up on the "sugar in the raw" sort of mentality that's out there.
There are also those of us who are not 100% raw but trying to be better about our choices while adding more raw in (I know even 90% raw would not work well for me personally for a variety of reasons but that's also not to say that 100% raw is wrong for everyone either.) I actually bought Mexican Coca-cola last week as a treat because it doesn't have the high-fructose corn syrup. Mexican Coca-cola is made with cane sugar and has a lighter taste that that reminded me of the cola I drank in the 80's. Jones soda has the right idea but there's just nothing that replaces the flavor of a coke or pepsi. I wonder when Coke and Pepsi will give us cane sugar for their products in the US without having to import them from another country. Technically there's Coke or Pepsi "Kosher for Passover" made with cane sugar in the states but it's near impossible to find (as is the Mexican Coca-cola ... I was tempted to buy more when I saw it but it was so expensive I didn't.)
Anywho - a step towards sodas that are made with cane sugars and less artificial junk is at least one step in the right direction. I for one hope that their experiment in the UK works out well or at least might have them thinking about healthier options than what they are providing now.
I don't expect them to ever be as good for you as a freshly made green smoothie - it would be hard for any packaged product to compete with that.
Good demo btw. I've made soda with natural extracts (yeah, it's extracts not "raw") and carbonated water before. They have no shelf life so you can't make up a big batch and expect it to be fizzy 5 hours later even.
The carbonated water I was getting also made my teeth hurt for some strange reason which is why I stopped making it (tried the carbonated water straight, it was not a problem with the extracts I was using.) For what it's worth, homemade nutmeg extract made by putting a bunch of nutmeg in rum and setting it in a sunny window for a few days and then straining it makes some pretty darn good home made cola (tastes nothing like coke or pepsi though.) Maybe I should try some of the more expensive carbonated waters and see if they also make my teeth hurt.
And for what it's worth I drink a lot of herbal and green teas. Again, not "raw" because it's hot tea but it's helped me not drink nearly as much soda as I used to.

yeah that is all fair to know, even though there's quite alot of attempts at personal attacks and discrediting people in these matters rather than just deliver straight answers to the questions.
