Give it to me Raw

The Basics

We won some prizes, we're giving them away, tell us how community has impacted your life in this thread and in one week we'll announce the winners.

Details

Back in December Give It To Me Raw won "Best Raw Website" from the Best of Raw 2008 Competition (hosted by Laura Fox).

As part of the competition we won 10 Prizes from the Best of Raw team. Here's the deal, GI2MR is a community site, we won best site because of you! So it's only fair that we give these prizes right back to the community that has made us into the success we are.

If we had 5,600 prizes then it would make giving these prizes away very easy - one for each member. But since we don't, I'm asking for the following...

The Power of Community

Community has played such a huge part in my raw journey - especially GITMR. It's helped me through some really rough patches with the humour, fun and understanding of many of the members of this community. I learned new things and got on the collective band-wagons of collecting spring water and doing oil-pulling (one is more fun than the other, I might add). And at time I have been able to share information with others to help them in their raw journey, which is kind of cool.

My husband isn't even vegetarian, let alone raw and I don't have any friends who are raw. Most people thought I was pretty strange just for being vegetarian, then vegan and raw? But it's critical that I do this -- I won't settle for diabetes, which my doctor told me was inevitable. So when I have a question or just need to feel like I am not alone, I log into GITMR. I don't always post (though I've asked questions on the forum ranging from sources for raw almonds to the state of -ahem- bodily functions), but I am here everyday -- reading posts, watching videos, reading blog posts. I have now been mostly raw for just over a month. Couldn't have done it without you!

Ahh, this one's easy!

Living in Cattle Country Texas, I found myself looking around for a supportive conscious living community. That turned out to be as simple as a little trip to the Web.

A couple years ago I noticed some of my online friends were an extreme swing of the pendulum, Raw or Anti-Vegan. Over time I got more & more comfortable with the practice of conscious taste, enjoyment of food. These days are filled with an outpouring of healthy connections, understanding, comments, support, belief systems & awareness.

I've been reading WLIR & GI2MR for over a year & just this week actually joined. Looks like I'm ready to receive even more community into my already supportive system. Thank you very much!

The impact this community has had on my journey to ultimate health and success is a wonderful one. It's given me a place of awareness that I'm not the only who has waken up from the matrix of MSG & HFC syrup. It's provided love and shelter from the storm will walk through on a daily basis. It's been a heaven of knowledge and outside the normal realm of thoughts to allow progression. I just really enjoy being here. No matter how raw you are, short, tall, or small you are... you're always welcomed here. Whether you like it or not might I add.

I'm kinda new to this site but not to the raw lifestyle in general. Honestly, even though I feel better in my own skin being raw, I have jumped on and off the raw band wagon many times over the years, with negative consequences to my health following each cooked food binge.
So why is this site helpful?....... because even though I love being raw vegan, doing it in a small town where nobody has ever heard of such things can be lonely. My escape has been the raw food books I have collected and cherished over the years, as well as raw recipe web sites. This site in particular strengthens my resolve and inspires me to march to my own beat. Out here I feel like a food obsessed outcast, but the GI2MR group reminds me what a wonderful thing raw is for our bodies and the world we occupy. This site reminds me that I do not stand alone, that with our collective good intentions we will have a positive impact on this planet through our food choices and our beliefs.
Also, not to forget, there is always support available from those who have already experienced the same ups and downs as me. Valuable information and experience is shared daily through the many discussions that seem to take place on this site 24/7.....For this I am grateful.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...
